CHICAGO – June 27, 2009 – The first ever Nike 6.0 street specialty competition took place at the first stop of the 2009 Dew Tour, the Nike 6.0 BMX Open, June 26-27in Chicago’s Grant Park. Team captain, Sean Sexton, took home the first place finish with teammates, Aaron Ross and Danny Hickerson.

The street specialty competition consisted of nine riders divided into teams of three with one filmer per team. Filming time was designated to each team on the Wessel-designed street course, for the filmer to edit footage into a three-minute video. Walter Peringer shot and edited the winning video for team Sexton. Fans can find videos from all three teams on allisports.com and RideBMX.com.

In addition, the teams went head-to-head in a 20-minute jam session. Judges rated the jam session and video part, combining the two scores and declaring Sexton’s team the winner.

“The course was great and the format made for an awesome contest,” said team captain, Sexton.

The winning runs included a tooth hanger to 360 by Sean Sexton, an uprail manual to fakie rail and an uprail to 180 rail by Aaron Ross with a double tire up big rail to tailwhip by Danny Hickerson.

“Coming from the street side of BMX I never thought I’d ever win one of these,” said Ross. “Everyone on the team held their own. The course was really good and everyone found unique ways to use it.”

Fans can now vote for their Standout Rider on RideBMX.com, and the winning rider will receive a $1,000 bonus. The Standout Rider will be announced on Thursday, July 22nd.

Based on their X Games 14 podium finishes, Garrett Reynolds, Van Homan and Sean Sexton were named team captains of the street specialty competition. As captains, each hand selected their two other teammates for the contest. Reynolds chose JJ Palmere and fellow Nike 6.0 rider Dennis Enarson, while Homan selected Randy Brown and Chase DeHart. Sexton opted for Aaron Ross and Danny Hickerson, coming out victorious.
