DISCUSS > BIKE > VIEW TOPIC| | | | bellator wrote on Jun 19, 2009 at 02:42 PM Does anyone know where I can find information on a device, piece of equipment, that will calculate and display a riders speed at a specific location on a track? I have tried a handheld radar gun but it would not work, probably due to the size of a bicycle vs. a car(it's intended purpose). I was thinking a speed trap like what they use for downhill skiing would be best but I can't find anything on the net about one. If anyone knows where I can look so I can research this idea further, I would appreciate it. | | | | chrisZAMBITO wrote on Jun 19, 2009 at 06:06 PM I remember I saw somthing on sponsorhouse one time, you have to have a sensor on the bike or something, and you have a starting point and ending point with sensors there too. calculates everything. I'll check on it and let you know. | | | | | Josh Patton wrote on Jun 19, 2009 at 10:16 PM I dont know if the Rennen G-cog would be any help for you but you could check. It's a cog with a computer chip that measures how your traning is. there may be a mode on there that tracks how fast you accelerate on the track but i have not clue. i couldnt afford one. | | | | bellator wrote on Jun 21, 2009 at 05:36 PM Thanks for the info. I'm looking for something that we can install on our local track which would not require any modifications to anyones bike. Equipment that would create something like a speed zone, so when a bike goes through it, it sends the speed out to a display that the crowd can see or the announcer can announce. It seems to me that with today's technology, it should be possible. Keep the ideas coming. Thanks | | | | | Josh Patton replied to bellator's post on Jun 22, 2009 at 07:26 PM well Nike makes a traning product. I think its one of the green 'CORE' products they make. Its bassicly two poles you stand up and put sensors on your forks. ( i know you said no modifications to bikes but this will probably be most accerate without paying a lot.) and it will time from when you cross one pole to another. so this give you alot of options. you can put the poles in a number of places. and its a good traning device for the riders. then when you want the data just plug it in or it may have a screen on the poles. but there probabaly your best bet that i can think of. | | | | Josh Patton replied to Josh Patton's post on Jun 22, 2009 at 07:27 PM and adding on, i know it dont get your speed. but you can do some measurements and some math to figure it out. | | | | | Josh Patton replied to Josh Patton's post on Jun 22, 2009 at 07:39 PM and adding on more.....
the it was NIKE SPARQ, not nike core. and i checked, and i dont think there avaiable anymore. so probably try e-bay. or local sporting goods my still have some. | | | |
