As Champion, Larrin Will Compete Against Dew Tour Pros at PlayStation® Pro, Oct. 15-18
Salt Lake City – Mykel Larrin won the BMX vert contest Sunday at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals, being held in conjunction with the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge.
After taking third in the BMX park finals yesterday, 21-year-old Larrin from Racine, Wis. used a can can to x-up, seatgrab to x-up and a downside tailwhip to score an 89.17 and clinch the win at vert. A last-minute entry into the Gatorade Free Flow Tour BMX vert finals, Larrin emerged from a field of five amateur vert riders for the victory. Greencastle, Ind.-native Nick Summerlot took second place with a turndown and an invert that gave him an 88.50. Rounding out the top three was Anthony Garcia of Melbourne, Fla., who scored an 88.17 after landing a tuck no-hander, an alley oop barspin and a 540 at the buzzer.
“I hadn’t ridden the ramp before today, but after a couple of airs, I started feeling good and throwing down some lines,” Larrin said. “It’s shocking [that I won], but I’m so thankful and pumped. One of the things I love is riding with people that push the envelope, and [the Dew Tour pros] are doing that every single day. [Competing against them] is just going to help me go a little bit deeper in my trick bag and fire it off.”
With the win at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals, Larrin earns a spot in the Dew Tour’s PlayStation® Pro in Orlando, Fla., October 15-18, to compete against the pros.
The Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals are being held in conjunction with the Toyota Challenge, a four-day competition that is the fourth of five stops on the Dew Tour, which features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross.
