BMX Rider and GO211 Team Pro, Donny Robinson, was named to the USA Olympic Cycling Team. Robinson joins fellow GO211 Pro Kyle Bennett, Mike Day, and Jill Kintner on the USA Team. Bennett, Day, and Kintner, all qualified for the team by winning the Olympic Trials. Since there was one more roster spot open and no more trials, the coaches invited Robinson onto the team.
Although Robinson didn't make the time by winning a qualifier, he is still considered a favorite to win a Gold Medal.
This is the first time BMX racing will be an event in the Olympics. Last year I had the opportunity to ask Robinson how he felt about getting the chance to call himself an Olympic athlete. His humble response was:
"I'm still not able to call myself an Olympic athlete but, no, not in a million years did I think I would ever have the chance to be in the Olympics because of BMX. I'm definitely not going to complain about the opportunity..."
Congratulations Donny, because you are now able to call yourself an Olympic Athlete. Robinson, the 2007 USA Champion, is probably the most popular BMX racer around. His sponsors include McDonalds, Kellog, and Monster Energy.
Good luck in China to Donny, Kyle and the rest of the USA Olympic Team.
