what are some tips for the random gate start from: 910 RacerDon't be so dang nervous. It's a very simple system. Red light goes, then you go and you'll be right on time. I know it's easier said than done but being calm is most important. |

right now i have been skating for a while and want to know i go pro. from: adamGo for your dream then. It's a long road so be prepared for many ups and downs. I caution though that diffulties and failures play with your head a lot and could lead to you becoming unmotivated if you don't see the results you want in the beginning. Never let anyone tell you what you are capable of. |

I grew up racing for GT in the 80's w/ guys like Geoff Schofield, Brian Lopes, Greg Long, Mike King, and the Houseman's...do any of those names ring a bell or have you heard what they are doing lately? from: BritDoggActually, I'm close with Mike King whose title I believe is Director of BMX for USA Cycling so I see him all the time. Lopes is still racing MTB. Rich Houseman is still racing MTB and does a bunch of work for SponsorHouse.com and his brother Gary, last I heard was driving the rig for some MX racer. So they are all doing great. |

Hi Donny. I was wondering how you get amped before you compete. What's your ritual? Also wanted to know what bands you are listening to these days. Thanks! from: KristinWell, I normally get amped up before I even head to the venue for the race. I'm big with music during training and that gets me psyched up all the way through the competition. The Rocky soundtrack and songs from BMX videos such as Sunspot and GoodNight City rock. |

Being a world class athlete in top shape, how strict is your diet and about how many calories do you eat per day? from: TurnageMy diet is semi-strict. I mean, the last two years I've just been eating what I think is good. You know, pastas, potatoes, fish, chicken, veggies, fruits, etc...and of course some sweets sometimes. That diet proved to work out decent. I just got more of a detailed eating plan that has the calorie breakdown like this: breakfast 650 cal, training snack 120-240 cal, recovery snack 240 cal, lunch 650 cal, dinner 850 cal and supper 250 cal. To me, worrying about calories might be a waste. I think eating the foods you know are good for you will suffice. |

What's your favorite time of year? Do you love Christmas? Have you already done your Christmas shopping? And finally did you ever want to go to the Olympics for Rhythmic Gymnastics? from: Gretchen BleilerUmm, of course I love Christmas! And no I haven't even started my shopping yet. If you wouldn't mind picking up a few things for me I would appreciate that. My favorite time of year is a toss up between Christmas and Spring. Rhythmic gymnastics? I never really thought about it. I might have the grace to pull it off though... haha. |

What was the first trick you learnd?? Favorite trick?? from: CLITUNFirst trick I learned that was of any significance would be a knack-knack or can-can. Those are pretty much my favorite tricks too as that's all I can do. That's why I stick to racing. |

dr,
Just wanted to get your thoughts on all the steriod hype these days. Obviously other cycling disciplines had major embarressing problems this past year with the tour and also baseball ongoing well publizied issues. But now that bmx will be in the olympics in 2008 what do you feel is the chance that usa or other riders may get caught doping in some way shape or form? I'd love to think that that the juice is not being used by any rider but I realize it's very tempting for any athlete.
take it easy and good luck from: jpOf course doping has been a major problem in road cycling and apparently other Olympic sports, but that's why I think BMX Racing will be a breath of fresh air for all the bad publicity surrounding doping in sports. I'm not nieve to the fact that there has been steroid use in BMX in the past and perhaps could continue today, but as far as I'm lead to believe, all of the top BMX athletes are doing everything within the rules. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'm 100% confident that BMX will not incur any negative headlines involving steroid use and we will be the breakout stars of the 2008 Games. |

What size frame/top tube do you run on your bike? I'm a new racer, and at 5'5", 150lbs., all of the other guys that I race with tell me that my frame is too small, and that I should be running a 21". I have a 20.5" frame now, but I figured that I'd get your opinion since you and I are the same height. Also, I'm 32, so buying a frame for future growth won't be a concern.
Also, Good luck in your Olympic aspirations. I know you'll represent us well!
Thanks! from: KamauDepending on what stem you are running, it sounds about right. I run a 20.75 tt and have the Crupi Expert stem. I'm not sure if you are running a longer stem that I am or not. The problem with using longer stems to help fit the bike better is the bigger stems significantly increase the front end weight and I'm not a big fan of that. So see how long your stem is compared to the Crupi and you'll know about where you are at. You ride the bike, not others, so stick with what you are comfortable with but don't be afraid of change. |

Hey I was curious to why you choose to wear Whitey Tighties over boxers or even boxer briefs??? from: Jason RogersI do what I do and you do what you do. My mom brought me up to wear tighty whities and I like to respect her wishes, plus that's all she buys me (seriously). I go for functionality over comfort any day. Opposites attract. You wear briefs, I wear tighties, we get along well. |

I'm a 200+ guy and need good chro-mo bars. I have a couple pair of dR for the 20, but do they make them for cruisers, too? What do you run on the cruiser and what size? from: BobI hope them FLY Racing bars are treating you well. As far as I know we don't have any chro-mo bars under 7.5" rise, but double check on that. When I rode cruiser I had the 4" aluminum bars on, but of course you don't want to run those! If there are no cruiser sized chro-mo dR bars I do know that the Mike Day and Joey Bradford have 5.5" chro-mo bars. You'll find something in the FLY Racing family for sure. Call Ray or Jeremy at FLY. They'll be happy to set you up. |
|
Do you know how to upload videos? from: BaggioI hit up the FAQ section of the site (it's down at the very bottom of the page). If you are still having trouble, select the "contact us" link and I'm sure someone will be glad to give you specific advice. |
|
How come you look so mad right after you come off the track? from: Sut'DogHaha, because I'm intense. Whether I did good or bad, there are still some things I could work on to be better. I'm not mad, I'm just thinking about how my lap was. |
|
Yo Donny, you gonna win out at Christmas Clasic. from: Jason the AnnouncerI sure hope so. 2008 is going to be great and would love to start off strong in Ohio. |

Is there enough money to live off of being a bmxer? If not, what else do you do to make money? from: theShowdown12I am certainly thankful that at this point I am able to make enough money from BMX not to have to get another job. Racing my bike is my dream job, so even though people might tell you that you can't make enough money riding BMX, don't let that take you away from doing what you love. If your passion is strong enough, you can make a living doing whatever you want. |
|
I understand that your Dad was a big influence on your BMX career. Do you have any advice for the Gear Chart Dad's and thier groms? from: JoshMake sure your kids are totally devoted to BMX (or whatever sport they play), but make sure it's their decision. After that, run them into the ground. Do YOUR homework and find great training exercises and things for the bike that will help them succeed. Be there for them and push them a bunch, but know when to back off. My dad did it just right. I hated him sometimes but by all the work and sacrifice he put in to me, I can now train by myself and know why I have to train every day at 100% intensity. Tell your kids if they want to be the best, then you are going to do all you can to help with that. |

So Donny, I hear you wear socks in the shower now because of a urine phobia from two of your fellow team mates? Tell us a little about that...
I also hear you only shave half of your legs.... whats with that? haha from: Lee LewisFirst off, I shouldn't have allowed us to stay in a hotel where the shower door tripled as a mirror/fake closet and second, I should know not to ever close my eyes when staying with you. I shave up only half way because I like saving energy as well as to help keep my legs warmer. Haha. |
