77. I'm a fast 17 year old NBL rider, (national #1 & #4) but I currently don't have a sponsor. I don't ride much ABA 1. what can i do to get more exposer & get noticed? I've ran some Jr woman and podium. but funds are limited. 2. what is being done in the UCI and the Sx for funding? I feel that the UCI is looking at the younger girls and overlooking the older girls for 2012, Why? I mean look at Jill Kitner in 2008.
from: pattonbmx
Its unfortunate but sponsorship is really tough across the board from AA's to pro girls. Getting exposure means winning races and working on your own to get your name out there. Sometimes you have to privateer it for awhile before something comes your way, I know I did my first couple years pro. As for funding to SX races each and every one of us has to earn that position on a race by race basis which primarily comes from results, experience, and graduating from the new Jr devo program. USA cycling has set up the Jr development program to help feed riders into the SX system from a young age so they can learn how SX works, but they still have to pay to come to the center in Chula Vista. Fact is, there just isn't much funding across the board so participation in the program is a fair way for them to find riders eligible for the JR DEVO program. That doesn't mean that you can't get noticed if you are older than 15 but it does mean that you need to participate in some Jr Elite races so they can see you. Jill didn't lose her spot on the funded team, she chose to pursue MTB after the Olympics, were she still doing bmx she would likely still be at the top of the game.

76. How should I attemp a step up and step down right next to eachother?
from: CJ Dietrich
Hit it slower your first time until you can dial in the backside of the step up. The key is a smooth transition between the two... keep your front wheel nosed in and stay relaxed, the step down will flow naturally after that.

75. I heard that you we spending some time at the Olympic Training Center this summer... whats it like to hang out with athletes from differant sports. I'll bet the snowboarders are pretty radical. ; )
from: Callan
I am actually back at the OTC until mid-October, some of the snowboarders are alright, a little cocky when it comes to balance games in the sports performance room but for the most part they are pretty chill. In fact, I am sleeping in former snowboarder Callan C.S.'s old bed, she's pretty famous... do you know her?

74. do you ever like go out and ridee likee small tracks around your home?
from: Shane Stanwood
I love to ride all kinds of tracks, its really good for you as a rider to get variety in your riding, even if the track is small i'm all about riding it.

73. what schoool did you go to growing up? or were you home schooled?
from: Shane Stanwood
I graduated from public school... Lone Peak high to be exact, then went on to get a Bachelor's degree from BYU. I was homeschooled for a few years though, 2-4th grade until my mom could put me in an accelerated program because I was a little ahead of the kids my age.

72. Do you think putting helium in tires would be a cool trend?
from: Josh Patton
Absolutely not, I kind of think its a big waste of money actually... better to spend that money on a gym pass or Chipotle.

71. hello arielle ima real fan of u and im 14 and i want to ask u what is ur favorite brand for bikes?
from: abrahambmx
GT of course

70. How do you feel knowing you have the coolest hair style in BMX? And do you feel it gives you an edge over your competition?
from: skitz
Thanks! I like changing my hair up a lot, not sure it gives me an edge on the comp, but at least it has some character. Got a fresh look coming next week...

69. um...whats the hatdest part of being a pro bmx rider?
from: ryan
For me its probably being away from my husband so much...

68. what was the biggest air u ever got
from: Spencer
The new first jump at the CV OTC is 39ft...42 if you want backside, definitely the farthest jump I have ever jumped.

67. just found out you and sammy cools both got hurt, let us know how your doing it's driving my wife crazy ! hope your both alright and God Bless. Godfather.
from: Godfather
Sammy and I did get to spend some quality time together in the South African ER Thursday after practice, as did Lauren Reynolds. We all three went down on different parts of the track in the first training session but luckily all of us are ok. I came off with a broken hand, Lauren with a pulled shoulder, and Sammy had a pretty good concussion + whiplash. For me it will only be 3 weeks or so in a cast, Doc told Sam 4wks but knowing her she will be back on the gas sooner.

66. whats the definetion of being an other? is that a new race.
from: beck
Ah geeze, that story will never leave me, its been almost ten years now. I'd say an "other" is someone who doesn't understand the definition of Caucasion, I still don't know why that word is even used, what's wrong with "white?"

65. I want to start riding at our local track. How should I start? Any advice for a 46 yr old mom who just lost 50lbs. Thanks
from: oldie
First off congrats on losing 50lbs, thats great! Start out on the flatest straights first, just get used to the bike and stay loose. The key to getting better is to ride as much as you can, nothing replaces time on the bike.

64. hell ya or hell no?
from: Chad DeGroot
Hell ya!

63. do you work on your own bikes?
from: ninjawhite
Always, my dad made me learn when I was young and i'm pretty particular about my set up. Even when we have a mechanic on board I always like to do a run through myself just to make sure its right.

62. I stopped racing three years ago because my mom got a new job and her schedule got changed and my brother and I got the bad end of that deal. Well we both want to start racing again and I am old enough now to drive us both. My question is this, how do I convince my mom to let us start racing again? We need new memberships and our bikes need some new parts especially I think my brother has outgrown his bike. How can I convince my mom to let us start racing again and to let me drive us to races?
from: erinc
Ask your mom if there are odd jobs around the house that you can do to earn money for memberships. Try your best to explain to her how much you love to ride and that its a good way for you and your brother to get exercise and stay out of trouble. Prove that you are responsible enough to drive yourself to practice or races. Maybe you can ask some neighbors if there is stuff around the yard for you to do to earn money as well. Hard work always pays off. Good luck!

61. Do you like MC Donalds after training?
from: marcok
I hate McDonalds, sorry. The documentary Super Size me kind of ruined fast food for me.

60. What do you think would be a fair purse for a national inElite Woman?
from: jwood
At least $500 for first, ideally 1k but thats not realistic. We get pretty played out, get paid less than the vets I think. Good thing I don't do it for the money!

59. Being in the Army i have seen a few differant countries. I also Love BMX and hate it when i see kids who do not know the joys of it...so If you could go to any country and teach kids the joy of BMX, which one would be your first choice?
from: 2wheeldream
I might be biased since I am in South Africa right now, but I think it would be rad to teach kids who are living in an underprivileged country somewhere in Africa. Japan would be pretty cool too, I did a clinic there a few years ago and the kids were so polite and well behaved, just thrilled to be on the bike and learning from Americans. Thanks for serving our country

58. you plan to be in the 2012 olympics
from: domingo
