Go211's favorite red headed surfing viking Cheyne Magnusson is answering the Who? What? Where? Why? and How? from the Go211 community as he relaxes after filming surf and diving segments in Tahiti for his new movie Drop Zone and gears up for photo shoots and contests in France, Portugal and Spain. So, Ask this surfing and skating phenom anything and everything about living the dream, free diving for his dinner, or about having a legendary skateboarder as a father, fire away, he's all yours.......

23. Competitive surfing seems a bit too competitive. Any thougts on that?
from: Greenwood
I just don't really agree with competitive surfing too much. I mean its judged so that means its subjective, and then there is a criteria so it takes out any emphasis on individual style and creativity, and finally no one controls the ocean! Its basically the most unfair sport in the world...I like that freesurfers are receiving more credit these days because they are the people really pushing the sport to new levels.

22. I just finished reading Surfers article on your brother Clay Marzo. Are you and Clay half brothers or step brothers?
from: Greenwood
Clay and I are half brothers.

21. You seem to have a family with sick skills, how was it growing up with your father Tony who still rips in the skating world.
from: Greenwood
That was really cool because i only got to see my dad a few months out of the year and for those few months all we did was skate together...it was awesome. It wasn't like i had this authority father figure you know? It was more like i had this really old friend who ripped at skating and took me to the skatepark everyday!

20. With your dad being a legend in skateboarding did you ever want to do something totally different, like be a football player?
from: Lisa Kosglow
Not really, I tried team sports and they just weren't for me...I like the whole attitude and atmosphere of the board sport industry. I couldn't ever be a jock thats just the complete opposite of who i am as a person. Plus its cool to be able to go skate with my dad, i just hate when he tells me how to skate haha!

19. How do you keep your hair so shiny and poofy? Do you pick it?
from: Lisa Kosglow
I keep my hair shiny and poofy with a little technique i like to call "not washing my hair, ever." Its pretty much one giant red shiny dreadlock.

18. i want to know how you get air on a surf board? i want to go surfing one day but i was just curious about that? thanks, bryce toby.
from: freek leek
Practice ollies on a skateboard, then, next time your flying down the line with alot of speed at a lip ollie your surfboard.

17. Who is your favorite surfer? Who is your favorite skater? And whats your favorite sport besides skating or surfing?
from: Josh Patton
I don't really have one favorite surfer i kinda like everybody for one reason or another. As far as skating though my favorite skater would have to be my dad cuase he's like living inspiration...i mean the guy is 44 and doing the mega ramp! Besides surfing and skating my favorite sport is freediving...lots of fun and free food.

16. whats the biggest wave you have ever been on?
from: Bryson #902
Alot of people ask surfers this question and its kind of hard to know for sure but in my case i'd say in the realm of 15-25 feet on the face. I'd like to start doing some more big wave stuff soon i've never really done towing but it looks fun.

15. How Did you 1st get into surfing?
from: Nathaniel
When my mom moved us to maui when i was real young i started boogie boarding. One day i couldn't find my boogie board and there was an old surfboard in the closet...been hooked ever since.

14. where is the most dangerous place you ever surfed an why?
from: Alexi Macou
Probably sebastian inlet in florida when the mullet were running. There was about one thousand bull sharks in the water and out of no where the mullet fish would start jumping out of the water and if you were in the way they would just hit you in the face. true story.

13. Cheyne.. How many Beer Bongs can you drink in a row?
from: Blake
Probably more than you. I'd say enough to hospitalize a small mountain lion.

12. What keeps u going forward? Who is ypur biggest support ?
from: nikozg
I'd say what keeps me going foreward is that you never know whats gonna come your way next in this industry. Whether it be some crazy trip to a place you've never heard of or an amazing concert one of your sponsors is throwing or getting a sick video clip...Its all rad to be a part of. My biggest support I'd say are a few of my close friends, my dad, and my girlfriend.

11. When and how did u realise that surfing is the thing that u want to do for living ???
from: nikozg
When i realized that people would actually pay me to surf all day! And i mean come on, chicks dig surfers, we all know this. I'd say those were my two selling points.

10. For all of us who never sufed before can u tell us how does it feels like when u catch the right wave ?
from: nikozg
I would say the feeling of doing everything right on a wave and kicking out knowing it is really hard to put in to words. For me its almost a tingling that passed over my whole body and i get super siked and usually yell something dumb to no one in particular...

9. Did you ever think as a kid that you would be living the life you are now? Did you anticipate your success or did it kind of fall into your lap suddenly?
from: Scott
I definitely wanted to be where i am as a kid for sure. I think that i just had a goal in mind to be a pro surfer and pretty much didn't let anyone tell me that i couldn't do it. And if anybody told me otherwise i basically stopped listening to anything they had to say to me again, ever. As for anticipating it i kind of took it as it came and one day it was like boom heres some money go on some trips and keep it going... getting there is not the hard part. Staying professional in this field is.

8. where is the most crowded place that you have surfed?
from: Alexi Macou
Probably rocky point on the north shore in the winter on a sunny weekend. There is give or take about 70 guys in the water sometimes...I hate crowds so when its like that i usually just play video games or skate haha.

7. how old were you when you got your first intervew?
from: Shane Stanwood
I think my first interview was when i was 13 or 14 in Surfing magazine. It was a half page in the back and i was so siked i carried it around in my backpack for like six months.

6. Besides epic swell, what makes one event more fun than another?
from: Tricia Byrnes
The overall vibe of the event is what interests me the most soooo if its some super uptight wqs i'm gonna think its lame even if the waves are good. I like the contests that differ from the normal contest format and criteria such as the game i think that format is super sick. Its also way more interesting for spectators, the old format is boring as hell. I'm also a big fan of tow-at contests those are amazing to be in and to watch. Another good thing about those is you can have it in any size waves and it'll be awesome. I just really like an event that tries to incorporate something more fun to watch than three turns to the beach that also doesn't have a super serious vibe to it. I mean come on its just surfing its supposed to be fun...

5. What was your best surf trip ever?
from: Tricia Byrnes
My best surf trip ever was to tavarua with Nixon last year. It was for the High Tide hold em' which is one of the coolest events ever. It isn't just a surf contest its kind of like a king of the island event where they had everything from spear fishing to guitar hero to compete in...its the only comp out there like it and i was siked to be in it and actually won the whole thing and got a free laptop out of it as well!!! oh and Jenna Jameson was there with us and if you don't believe just look at my go211 profile pic. Bam!

4. If you could have one superhuman power what would it be and why?
from: Tricia Byrnes
If i could have one superpower it would be to have the fastest metabolism ever so i could just eat ALL day as much as i wanted. My super hero name would be the bottomless pit but i wouldn't save anyone i'd just go to their house for dinner and eat all their food.
