Also, how do you stay competitive with all the young talent coming through the ranks, does it get harder every year? from: ScottIf I never picked up a surfboard, I would probably be in some other sport skateboarding, or wake boarding I started surfing at 14 so I didn't really have too many other goals picked out yet. The fact that the talent is awesome and getting harder is what keeps me competitive it's not too hard. |

4. How did you get involved with the orphanage in Peru? from: Tricia ByrnesI went to Peru to do the WCT event, but whilst i was there i decided to do some charity work too, I am an ambassador for a charity named Plan i was with World Vision for over 10 years and sponsored 3 kids with them but i wanted to be part of an organization that was not part of the catholic church or any churches and where all the money went to the kids not on advertising and paying big CEOs wages. So i switched to Plan, I sponsor a child through them, Miguel in Lima and went an visited him and his village, an hour inland from Lima, I worked with my sponsor CROCS to donate a bunch of shoes to the village and i did a similar thing in Cuzco at the orphanage, a bunch of the girls off the WCT wanted to go Machu Pichu before the contest and i was already in Lima with Miguel and so we went to an all girls orphanage on the way and filmed with fuel and gave away stuff to the kids, they were super stoked and we were super stoked to do it. |

2. How do you feel about the Mens and Women's ASP tours being split up? What are the pros and cons? from: Tricia ByrnesI think the tour is at the worst place it has been in a while don't get me started..ha!, i have mixed feelings the pros are surfing good waves and locations with the men's events but the cons of that are sharing the waiting period and the waves with them.
The tour is SO different now, i feel bad for the girls just coming on now, when i started we had WCT events in great waves, J Bay, Narabeean, Portugal, Tahiti, Tavarua, even ones in Japan with better waves then what i have been surfing this year, its been small windy waves all year on tour, in Peru i surfed a heat at 630-am then one again at 6:30pm against Layne Beachley and it was practically dark... besides being windy and 1 foot! it was the first day of the waiting period the next day they moved an event that was not even mobile to a pumping left and all of the girls who lost in the 3rd round and didn't even get to really surf just had to suck it up that's what is happening on the "dream tour" right now...... i think it is the make it up as you go along grovel tour ha! |
