42. Do you use gel in your hair on race days, or is your hair naturally like that. from: mz155No gel, all natural. |

41. Hey Randy, I'm a pretty huge fan, and am an intermediate rider. I have great form on the gate, but for some reason I alwaysss pull back. Everybody tells me that I need to fix it, and I am trying, but I can't seem to get past this habit. any advice?
and do you think its only appropriate to learn manualing and jumping skills on flats in a parking lot???? from: CATE<3You can learn manualing skills on jumps or flat ground and jumping skills at the track or trails. Flat pedals usually makes it easier to learn. As for your gate, if you can watch people at your track who get good gates and see what they do and try to imitate their form. That should help. Good luck. |

40. any nicknames, or can i assign you one? from: Chad DeGrootMost people call me Stump, Stumpy, or Stumpdawg. Maybe you can add to the list... |
|
39. Follow up to my first question, Out of all the pros who would you say your best friend or best friends are? And how you thought you its time for a good AA pro fight to spice things up. Who do you think the perfect fight would be between? from: Tori DainsMaybe a fight between DR and Jason Rogers. They are always arguing anyway so it would be fun to see them throw down. One of the pros I like to hang with is Javi Colombo...that guy can make me laugh. |
|
38. How'd you get the nickname Stumpy? And who gave it to you? from: Tori DainsHonestly I don't remember when it first came about. I just think someone decided to use half my last name, add a Y on the end and that was it. |

37. Couple questions:
Who was your first sponsor?
What is an average training day like?
When do you plan on retiring, if ever?
Where is your favorite vacation spot?
How do you stay motivated after being in the sport for so long with so much more ahead of you? from: ScottFirst sponsor(Mom and Dad), company HI-Tech Racing. Average training day: maybe go to the gym in the morning and hit the track up later in the day. I do plan to retire, just not sure when yet. Favorite vacation spot, my wife and I love to either go to the coast or go to the mountains. My motivation comes from a love of the sport of BMX, there is no other way to stay motivated for so long. |

36. heyy, so hows life? don't u get stressed out and over traveling a bunch?
take care, jamie from: Jamie AndersonLife is great. I have a great family who keeps me motivated and supports me beyond anything I could ever expect. I have great kids who teach me to be a better person. The traveling doesn't stress me out so much as just wear me out. It's just part of the deal so I try not to get too bummed about it. Thanks. |

35. I noticed that you're an engineer. Any plans to work as an engineer when you retire from BMX? I'm an engineer too...yea for geeky BMXers!
What is a typical week like for you? I'm mostly interested in how you spend your time training. from: Kal-El in SLOWell I have an engineering degree, but wouldn't call myself an engineer. I worked 3 months for a vending machine company while I was injured and couldn't race, that is the extent of my engineering experience. I actually plan to teach high school when I retire. A typical week for me consists of going to the gym a couple times a week, going to the track at least two times, riding trails, doing sprints, maybe some road bike work. It all depends on the week but I incorporate all these things into my training, and in between that I am wrestling with my kids. |

34. Hey randy, just wondering what your plan is for after racing?I know you are going to have your hands full with your kids.I think you adopting your son and daughter was cool.Have been a big fan of yours for a long time and always thought it was cool to see our local AA pro on the world stage and dominating. Thanks for answering all my questions, your a true professional. from: rick zeronYou are welcome, I appreciate all the questions. My plans as of right now are to pursue a teaching career at the junior high or high school level teaching math. I have an engineering degree but I am leaning towards teaching. |

33. Whats your style for pingpong? are you speedy or do you take it slow and wait for an opening? from: Derek Harlfinger #800A little control game mixed with some power hits when appropriate. Gotta keep em guessing. |
|
32. I saw you ride a UCI event up in British Columbia in the summer of '07 to get UCI points leading up to the Olympics. It was amazing to see your skill and track speed, up against our little track. What would it take to get yourself and some of the other AA crew to race up here again? from: dustinhThanks. Usually a good track and some good prize money always works...just depends on scheduling and how busy we are. |

31. Hi Rendy! from: RonaldWell hello Ronald. |
|
30. since you the inventor...where can i get a stumpy gate? from: MattI'm not sure. There are a couple people who make them I think, or you can make your own. Mine is over ten years old and still working like a champ. |
|
29. what bands or type of music do you listen to to get pumped up before a race? If you don't then what do you do to get pumped? from: Tori DainsSome Toby Keith or Kenny Chesney is what I like. Mellow music actually gets me more pumped than other stuff. |
|
28. I just watched your race at the 2008 NBL Grands for the title.Has to be one of the best races ever. What were your thoughts before the gate dropped.Looks like you were pretty emotional after the race. from: rick zeronThanks, it is for sure one of the best memories in my career. I honestly don't remember what I was thinking before the gate dropped, that is a good question. In fact, I remember after the race not being able to remember how my start was, and I usually always can remember that. Yes it was an emotional win for me, but as you saw, the race could easily have went either way and for some reason it just went my way that day instead of Cristian's. |

27. I am into other aspects of cycling, and it seems to me that bmx is the least evovled sport as far as technology goes. Do you see a reason why we haven't evolved as much as other disciplines of cycling, and have you ever seen any crazy prototypes around that would change the way we look at bmx? from: xallhopelstxI am not as familiar with other disciplines, but BMX has evolved in many ways since I started with frame materials and designs, and with the use of clipless pedals. BMX is also a sport that likes to hold on to its roots in many ways. I have seen some crazy prototypes out there, but I haven't seen anything that works better than a simply designed light weight frame. |
|
26. How much has bmx changed since you first started racing? For the better or worse? from: freemo43I started in 1986 so a lot has changed. The bikes are better and the tracks are better, and our sport was in the Olympics this past year, so most changes have been for the better. The skills of the riders are amazing compared to when I started. The first track I raced on in Sanger, CA had five jumps on the track and 4 were rollers. |
|
25. How are you liking your new family over at GHP? from: Kal-El in SLOThey are great. Everyone has been very welcoming and supportive, except Matt Zito keeps making fun of my hair for some reason. |
|
24. stump do you like donuts or cereal better?Do you drink coffee? whats your middle name? what time do you wake up? is your wife a good cook? do you like pizza? do you ride bikes or bicycles more? do you hate annoying questions? haha. from: Austin HiattCereal, but donuts taste better with coffee. Richard. 6:30 or 7. Excellent cook as you experienced the other night with banana pancakes. Love pizza(Me & Eds). Um bikes or bicycles?(confused me there) I enjoy all your questions. |

23. I just wanted to throw out that I have an autographed glove from you when you won the grands one year. And that our Birthday is on the same day (jan 27). But when do you plan on going into the Vet Pro class? I mean there's kids dominating AA that are a little less than half your age. from: Josh PattonThat's cool you have a glove of mine and same birthday. No plans for vet, when I am done with AA I will be spending my weekends with my family. I am still having fun at the moment trying to beat all those teenagers. |
