22. How hard was it on you to give up your Olympic dream.I know it was in your family's best interest to do so,and i respect you a ton for that. Also is there ever going to be another trails race at your place.I have been to a couple of those and seems that everybody has a good time, real kick back.thanks
from: rick zeron
Yes the trails race was super fun to do, but no plans in the near future for another one. As for my Olympic dream, on the one hand it was hard to give up because that was all I thought about and worked for in the previous years leading up to it. But on the other hand it was easy because my wife and kids come first and I sustained some serious injuries in two of the Olympic qualifiers, so it was best to set that dream aside.

21. do you shower with your socks on like "dR"? do you wear boxers boxer briefs or Whitey tighties
from: mj12
No on the socks, and the other...well that is classified.

20. Out of all the pros who would you say your best friend or best friends are?
from: Tori Dains
Too many to mention actually...most of the pros I feel comfortable hanging out with at the races. Actually I think we are all probably too nice to each other. It might be time for a good AA Pro fight to spice things up.

19. Do you train on flats very much? If so what is the benefit?
from: Sut'Dog
Yeah I like to ride flats mainly because I grew up racing with them. I think the benefit is you have to focus more on your pedal cadence.

18. Do you feel like Austin's Dad on the days you pick him up from school to train?
from: Sut'Dog
Nope. I don't ask him how his day was at school or if he has homework or how his grades are. I pick him up, we got ride for a while and call it a day.

17. What do you like better big dirt jumps or smaller more technical racer jumps?I ride at woodward park regularly, that place has a little bit of everything its rad .Seen you out there a few times killin the place.Keep up the good work.
from: rick zeron
I like racer style jumps more. I enjoy figuring out how to get over things quicker and staying low, but any jumps that flow are fun to me. I definitely enjoy the trails at Woodward Park, not too big and they flow.

16. how did you get so good at bmx
from: Tyler Vanderslice
Honestly I just loved to ride ever since I started and that is how I got better, I rode as much as possible and raced whenever I could. I didn't have the most natural talent but I was always riding getting better a little bit at a time.

15. what was your first bike?
from: Shane Stanwood
My first race bike was actually a GT with some really big CW handlebars and one-piece cranks.

14. A lot of riders have different views on this and i would like to know yours- when crossing a finish line in victory many riders will 'fist pump.' They will extend their arm with great force in the air in celebration of their triumphant ride. I have never done this but i have noticed you have many times. Please explain why you choose this. thank you.
from: Donny Robinson
I would like to ask you why you never have....but I guess I am supposed to give the answers here. Yes I have fist pumped after a victory before (I've done them with great force, mild force and medium force), probably because I was so excited I won. I specifically remember doing it after the 2003 NBL Grands when I won my first title, I was pumped because I wanted to win that title really bad. This last year when I won the title, I didn't fist pump. I was super stoked I won the title, but it meant something different and I just rode off to be by myself for a minute. I think the fans need to see a fist pump from you Donald so they can see you get excited sometimes.

13. What's the one training method you use that has helped you the most, sprints, plyo, gym, rest, etc?
from: James Reed
It is a combination of everything that my good buddy German Medina cooks up each week. My favorite is rest though.

12. Where is your favorite place to eat breakfast on race weekends?
from: Robert Riofrio
Always Mimi's or Black Bear...you owe me two Black Bear breakfast and I like free breakfasts best!

11. Do you think you like coffee as much as me??
from: mark mulville
That is a good question. I drink about 3 cups every morning but don't drink it all day long like Dave Bittner. I like coffee but am not obsessed....so you be the judge.

10. Do you ride trails often??
from: mark mulville
Not as much as I used to. I ride my trails out front 2-3 times a week, they are more racer style. Woodward Park in Fresno has some really nice trails that are fun and flow, so I like to hit those before track practice and try to throw a couple whips and turn bars.

9. Name your 3 top moments in your Pro Career. Name your 3 worst moments.
from: Double A Pete
Top 3: 1. 2003 NBL Grands winning first Elite Title, 2. First World Championship win in Brazil 2002 in Elite Cruiser, 3. 2008 NBL Grands second Elite Title. Worst 3: 1. Blowing out my right knee early in the season in 1997, 2. Getting passed down last straight in 2006 World Championships (Thanks Javi), 3. 2007 Frejus France Supercross broke clavicle, rib and scapula and ruined my shot at ABA title. A fourth worst moment is when you threw my bike at me in Woodbridge last year and completely flipped out and then we had to drive to the track together and didn't say a word.

8. What do you like to do for fun when race time is done for the day?
from: Double A Pete
Go have a nice dinner with my buddies, get some cold stone if we did well, then kick back in the room with the AC blasting and watching NASCAR would cap it off perfectly.

7. What do you consider your stand out qualities on a race track?
from: Double A Pete
I don't know, I think they have changed a little over the years. I have good starts out of the gate, medium track skills and medium track speed but I love to rail paved corners and test my Tioga tires out.

6. I am newly returning to bmx after some good 7 years off. I used to be 13 ex when i quit. Do you have any advice to help me get back up to speed again. I have been riding and training with track bikes in my time off.
from: xallhopelstx
Yes, ride your local track as much as possible and just get out there and start racing locals. The best way to get back to race speed is to race. Good luck!

5. What do you consider your greatest accomplishment and what would most people think it is?
from: Tricia Byrnes
I consider a couple things my greatest racing accomplishments. Winning 2 NBL Elite Men’s National Titles is one. Also winning 4 UCI Elite Cruiser World Championships in a row, and to go with that having a total of 12 UCI World Championship Elite medals. I think others might say my NBL titles since they are a season long battle.

4. Favorite track? Event?
from: Tricia Byrnes
My favorite track and event go together and has always been Louisville, KY where the NBL Grands is held. That place is so much fun to ride and I have had some good experiences at that place.

3. What are you influences?
from: Tricia Byrnes
My influences and inspirations start with my faith in God and I am always thankful for the opportunity to race my bike and support my family. My wife and children always inspire me to be better. My parents have had a huge influence on my racing career. Also my friends and church family give me awesome support.
