Chris Cole in Skate Park and Ryan Nyquist in BMX Dirt Crowned 2009 Dew Cup Champions

    Orlando – October 17, 2009 – It was a day of firsts the Dew Tour’s PlayStation Pro. After landing on the podium at each stop this season, Philadelphia-native and Dew Tour rookie Chris Cole won the skate park final for the first time, making him the 2009 Dew Cup champion in skate park. Brandon Dosch of Lake Orion, Mich. earned the top spot of the podium at the BMX dirt final for the first time in his career, but Ryan Nyquist of San Jose, Calif. was crowned the overall Dew Cup champion in BMX dirt, making him the first ever two-time Dew Cup champion in the BMX dirt discipline.

Proving his consistency, Cole landed on the podium at each stop of the Dew Tour this season, but he made it to the top for the first time at the PlayStationÒ Pro with his first-place finish in the skate park final. His winning score of 88.48 was earned by landing tricks like a back 270 to backboard, a back 180 nose grind, and always showing his creative side, a finger flip to tip-toe on the rail as a dropout.

The final jam was narrowed down from 12 skaters to six; Cole, Paul Rodriguez, Greg Lutzka, Milton Martinez, Danilo do Rosario and Chaz Ortiz. The jam was filled with technical tricks and big manuals, and Tarzana, Calif.-native Rodriguez landed a switch kickflip down the stair step and a switch flip boardslide to give him a second-place score of 87.90 and third place overall in season rankings. Greg Lutzka, of Milwaukee, Wis., rounded out the podium in third with a score of 86.75, giving him sixth overall in the season rankings.

“Winning the Dew Cup is awesome, and the experience of going to each stop and skating with all of these guys was really cool,” said Cole.

Riders gave it their all at the BMX dirt final, but Dosch came out on top, landing multiple 360 double whips and a 360 downside whip to earn him a final score of 92.87. Dosch’s consistency throughout the season earned him second place overall in Dew Tour season rankings.

“It just feels amazing to finally win, and the difference with this final was that I had that feeling in my gut – just a lot of pressure – with Nyquist being on top and me being so close behind,” said Dosch. “My goal was just to win one stop this year, so I just kept telling myself to stay positive and remember why I ride my bike. I almost can’t believe it.”

The win didn’t come easily for Dosch, as Moreno Valley, Calif.-native TJ Ellis landed equally flawless 360 double whips and a no-handed front flip straight to a no-handed back flip to earn a second-place score of 92.00. Rob Darden of Greenville, N.C. rounded out the podium in third with a score of 90.69.

However, the real win of the year went to a rider that didn’t even land on the podium at the BMX dirt final. Nyquist was crowned the BMX dirt Dew Cup champion for the second time in his career – the first being in 2007 – for his consistency throughout the season, aided by pair of wins at the Wendy’s Invitational and the Toyota Challenge. Nyquist placed fifth at the PlayStationÒ Pro dirt final, giving him enough points to win the entire Dew Tour season and edging out Dosch by a mere six points.

“It feels really good to be the first two-time BMX dirt Dew Cup champion. It’s not exactly the way I would have liked to win it, but I’ll take it anyway, “ said Nyquist. “I rode really sloppy tonight, not in my true form at all, so I’m just really happy I could at least pull it off. I couldn’t be more stoked.”

Immediately following the BMX dirt final, Transworld RideBMX hosted a BMX dirt Best Trick Contest presented by Dan’s Comp. Taking place on the steps of Amway Arena, Anthony Napolitan took home the Best Trick title and $5,000 for his 360 double truck to late tailwhip.

The four-day competition featuring skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross is the fifth and final stop of the 2009 Dew Tour season.
