This is one of the boldest overnight snow forecasts I have ever seen.
SNOW WILL BEGIN ACROSS THE LAKE TAHOE BASIN LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES TONIGHT AND SUNDAY. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 10 TO 20 INCHES ARE EXPECTED AT LAKE LEVEL WITH 18 TO 30 INCHES ABOVE 7000 FEET. IN ADDITION...WIND GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH AT LAKE LEVEL...AND GUSTS NEAR 100 MPH OVER THE HIGHER RIDGES...WILL PRODUCE AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW AND NEAR ZERO VISIBILITY AT TIMES. PERSONS PLANNING TRAVEL ARE URGED TO AVOID TRAVEL THROUGH THE SIERRA DURING THIS STORM.
Getting to Squaw was a mission today. Not being home for weeks I was amping for a powder day at my home mountain so I was on it first thing. An hour of digging out slowed things down and I didnt get to the chair until 8am but was suprisingly 5th in line. One ski patroller said it was the biggest overnight snow he has seen in his 27 years at the mountain. Alpine didn't even open. Amazingly Red Dog was open by nine and KT by ten. The first few hours were as good as it gets.
