Jason Shibata Shines on Hyuga Pro Day 2 HYUGA, Japan

(Thursday, October 9, 2008) - The ASP WQS 2-STAR Hyuga Pro presented by Asahi enjoyed another sunny Summer day at Oguragahama beach today. Two-to-three feet (1 metre) waves fanned by offshore breeze made brilliant waves for the day. The event got right into action with the Round of 32 of ASP WQS action.
The top-seeded surfers competed the first time in the event and it was battle between Teppei Tajima (JPN) and Hideyoshi Tanaka (JPN) as well as Takayuki Wakita (JPN) and Shu Hagiwara (JPN) for top local honors.
Tajima scored an excellent 8.50 to start the heat, but Tanaka fought back through the heat. Tajima fought back with a 5 point to keep the lead. In heat 5 Izuki Tanaka (JPN) scores a high 7.50 in the early time of heat and backs it up with a 6.75 to victor.
Jason Shibata (HAW) scores high with an excellent 8.25 and a back up of 7.50 and moves to the round of 16 actions for tomorrow. Shibata also fought hard in the LQS event and also moves to action for tomorrow.
First call tomorrow morning is 7:30 with a potential 8AM start.
