SAN JUAN, Lanzarote (Monday, November 2, 2009) – Same on-shore winds and smaller surf in the two-foot range (0.6 to 1 meter) did not allow any competition on the second day of the waiting period, the ASP WQS 6-Star Prime Islas Canarias Santa Pro still expecting solid conditions soon.
While many of the international field of competitors drove twenty minutes to the West coast of the island for a training session, event officials decided not to run any heats at the main venue of San Juan as good spectacular surf is on the way.
“It’s good to let the guys train and get in rhythm before the big swell hits San Juan,” event director Laurenço Seis said. “Some of them have been travelling from Canada and got here yesterday night and we are confident San Juan turns on and delivers great surf.”
With ninety-six men readying to battle for the valuable ratings’ points counting towards the end of the year ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) classification, the upcoming exchanges promise to bring intensity and world class surfing to Lanzarote.
First out will be current ASP Top 45 member Heitor Alves (BRA) up against Dylan Melamed (HAW), Pablo Gutierrez (ESP) and Brent Dorrington (AUS), when Round 1 kicks off.
A call will be made at 8 AM tomorrow Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the main venue of San Juan.
