Described as "Soulful," "Sexy," and "Riveting," New York City's contemporary roots duo, Dwight Ritcher & Nicole Nelson take audiences on a diverse musical jaunt through the blues, soul, rock, jazz and country, that they grew up on. Dwight and Nicole both came from very musical families; Dwight’s grandfather fronted a big band in New York in the 1940’s, and Nicole’s mother and grandmother were both pianists from Trinidad & Tobago. Growing up with a deep appreciation for the sounds of the past set them apart from many of their contemporaries as they developed their own styles. Ritcher and Nelson met one another when they moved to Boston, in the fall of 2000. Over the next few years, their groups would quickly become two of New England's most popular acts. Both mutual fans, they would frequent each others shows and often surprise their fans with a duet which would bring down the house. Their undeniable chemistry and powerful vocals began to captivate audiences and critics alike. Despite their successes in the Boston area, Dwight and Nicole found themselves at artistic crossroads. They were both looking to push their creative limits, and New York City, with its rich history in developing young artists, became an obvious choice for each of them. Dwight headed to Brooklyn in September 2004, followed by Nicole in November. The two began playing solo shows at such NYC hot spots as the Living Room and the Knitting Factory. Often sharing bills, they again found themselves inviting one another up onstage. The reaction from the audience was overwhelming. Fans began asking about a CD featuring the two of them together. And so, the Dwight & Nicole duo was born. They called on the legendary Boston rhythm section of Andy Plaisted on drums and Lou Ulrich on bass, and in just one afternoon at Club 39, their unique sound was captured - an eclectic mix of original tunes which display a great range of genre and style. At once intimate, honest, and raw; the two transcend the old and new with a timeless sound that belies their years. For the discerning fan, today’s popular music has lost much of its sparkle. Hearkening back to a time when art equaled passion and reflected a sense of urgency, Dwight and Nicole are a breath of fresh air.
