BMX Dirt Finals Report

Posted at 10:21:20 AM

OK, another update from the Dew Tour Finals.  Wow, crazy day yesterday. First off in prelims, Ryan Guettler rocked the house Friday, nailing the first-ever 1080 on dirt.  Needless to say, Ryan qualified in the numero uno position.  He had nothing to lose, not in contention for the title, so he definitely had the luxury of laying it on the line.  Big story:  James Foster, winner of the Dirt Comp in SLC, did NOT make the final. I repeat:  James Foster did not make the final.  The kid’s having a tough weekend, for sure.  Another notable not making the final:  Corey Bohan.    Well, Ryan had a good start to Saturday’s final, Run 1, with a pair of 720’s, put him on top of the leader board, but on run 2, Guettler definitely laid it on the line, coming up short on a double back flip off the first jump.  Not so good an ending to this one, Ryan was carted off the course on a stretcher with a universe of stars in his eyes.  Incredibly, he was up and trying to go for his third run, until pretty much everyone talked him out of it.  Despite on-again, off-again showers, the event went off without a hitch otherwise.  Riders were definitely having trouble making it through the softer section, with plenty of bails and sprocket cases.

People hoping for a Cam White/Ryan Nyquist showdown were in for some disappointment.  The two were having trouble throwing together complete runs. Cam White has the barspin-to-flipwhip dialed, but unlike SLC, he couldn’t use it in a complete run.  He did put up the highest scoring run of the day in round two, putting a scare into Nyquist, however, the final score was an average of the rider’s two highest scores and Cam had no back up score.  Cam settled for 6th, no Dew title for him. Nyquist grabbed a 5th,just enough to take his first Dew Tour overall title.

The story for the day was Luke Parslow.  Riding extremely consistently, Parslow took the win with youngster Dennis Enarson in second, and last year’s overall champ, Anthony Napolitano in third.   It was Parslow’s first Dew Tour win after a long string of seconds.
