The Skate Park Final promised to be a downright doozy. Big Story was Free Flow Tour overall winner, 13 year-old Chaz Ortiz, who not only won the FFT, but actually made it through prelims and found his little self in the main event with a bunch of his heroes. How surreal that must be, huh? One day, normal kid, next day, dew Tour SuperStud. Of course, Sheckler brought his traveling zoo with him, and the Dew Tour must love it for sure. The stands were PACKED with little girls screaming for Ryan, and there must have been a thousand outside the stadium packed against the fences who couldn’t make it into the stadium, just to maybe get a glimpse of the sensitive skater. Well, Ryan had the title locked up already, probably deposited the $75,000 check already, so he was under no pressure. Even so, Ryan’s no quitter, and qualified first in the prelims, after a shaky start that saw him go from 8th to 1st. Yay, Ryan! Greg Lutzka also made the final along with Ortiz and Brazil’s Rodil Araujo Jr., Carlos De Andrade, and Fabrizio Santos. The Brazilians are coming with a vengeance, you heard it here first. Expect to see “Life of Araujo” on Brazilian MTV real soon.
The stage was set for a Lutzka/Sheckler heavyweight title bout, and that’s exactly what the fans, the ones who actually know what a skateboard is, got. Sheckler and Lutzka traded blows like two fighters. Lutzka served up huge tricks, frontside noseblunt down the big rail and Sheckler countered with a 360 flip to flat from about five feet up. Lutzka fell pretty hard at the end of the second jam session, but still had enough to take the win away from Sheckler, who ended up in second. Rodil Araujo Jr grabbed the three spot to round out the podium. What happened to the little guy, Chaz Ortiz? He nailed down sixth, just behind Santos and de Andrade.
In overall 2007 Dew Tour final standings, Lutzka finished second with Rodolfo Ramos in third and Austen Seaholm and De Andrade rounded out the top five.
