A bunch of things have been happening over the past month. I have renewed my partnership with Monster Energy, as well as signed a new deal with Nike- thank you to both of them. More deals are being finalized and will be announced soon. Last we spoke I was heading down to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA. The two week trip ended up being really awesome. Due to previous rain, the replica Beijing BMX track wasn't rideable for much of the time I was there, but gate practice and testing filled the time while the track dried.
To become a better athlete there is no better place, with better people than the OTC. The track ended up being ready just in time as Nike came to do a full blown production day with three of their current male BMX athletes. Mike Day, Bubba Harris and myself were all a part of one of the raddest photo shoots we've ever done. Nike does it right and I want nothing more than to be rockin' the tricked out Nike USA uniform in the Olympics. January 21st was the official opening of the BMX track in Chula Vista. Riding, media interviews and good people made up a great day for all that came out. Here is a link to the NBC station's coverage of the event.
I got calls from many that saw this throughout California. www.nbcsandiego.com/sports/15107080/detail.html?dl=headlineclick Also, my AT&T Tips and Training profile has been posted. Everyone involved did an excellent job with this! Check it out at: http://attblueroom.com/sports/teamusa/tipsandtraining/ On February 4th I headed to Madrid, Spain for the first round of the '08 BMX Supercross season. I had a bunch of fun the whole week we were there, especially because my trainer German Medina was there. I believe there were about 95 riders at this race and I was happy with my 2nd place finish in the time-trials.
All my qualifiers ran smoothly and I was happy with my laps. In the final, unfortunately I didn't have my best lap with a few mistakes (one being almost dying over the first jump). I finished 5th and want to congratulate those top riders who had great rides. Later that night I was able to get in a phone interview with Sports Illustrated.
Thanks Donny
