Because of this whole BMX deal I've got going on I have been introduced to many things that I may not have been exposed to or had the chance to be involved in. Millions From One (MillionsFromOne.com) is one of those things. Through my at&t sponsorship, Matt Delzell hit me up a few weeks ago to show me what his team has developed through Millions From One.
Basically, the idea of saving millions of people, starts with the actions of just one person. A child in this world dies every 8 seconds due to unclean water consumption. The goal of MillionsFromOne.com is to eliminate this statistic by providing clean water for over one million people around the world through the sale of leather bracelets. The pretty sweet bracelets are $10 and the purchase of one bracelet will provide clean water to a person in need for up to 30 years. How will people receive the water you ask? Buying bracelets will go toward building wells. Buy bracelets, build the wells, save the lives.
Pretty simple right? But what about America? What is happening to help those in our own country? Millions From One is committed to donate up to $250,000 worth of clothing to non-profit organizations here in the U.S. This program is called Yield America.
I can talk about this program all day long, but go and check the site out at MillionsFromOne.com and learn more about what's going on. And buy a bracelet for goodness sakes.
I personally bought a bracelet two weeks ago, to show my support. I then went to Pietermaritzburg, South Africa for a BMX World Cup race. I. SAW. FIRST. HAND. WHY. MILLIONS. FROM. ONE. IS. SO. IMPORTANT. Without even knowing what I was getting in to, I went to visit a few different schools while I was there to speak about the race that weekend. On the way to the schools I saw families that were living in unreal conditions and even at the schools, I saw kids that had nothing, that were learning in run-down buildings. These and others worse off than them are exactly who Millions From One aims to help. After seeing those that are far less fortunate than us, I give my full support to the cause.
Realize the bracelets look fresh on ya too, so you can sport 'em at the club no worries. Check out few pics from my South Africa trip.
