About Us
Winter In June were formed at the end of 2000, frustrated at the number of 'Beatdown' bands that gripped the scene so tightly. The original line up was James (voice), xScottx (guitar), Mike (bass) and Scott (drums). Due to Mike's growing commitment to his other band (Deadlifeportrait), the guys sought a new bassist, and James' college roomate Stu stepped up to the plate.

It wasn't until August 2001 that xDan Burrowsx joined the fray, adding another guitar to the sonic assault. Dan left early in 2002 to join friends and local stalwarts xCanaanx, in an amicable way. Ross from Urotsukidoji joined for a one show performance before Nick Withersby (formerly of legendary Kent crew Earshot) was cemented into the ranks. Locking themselves in their practice space in Folkestone in the Southeast of England, Winter in June saw their style evolve from that of metallic hardcore a la Strife and Shutdown into the uncompromising, Swedish-influenced, Progressive-style of Punk rock they play today.

April 11th 2001 was the date of Winter in June's first show, opening up for xKombatx, the Belgian sXe crew, xCanaanx and Anthem of the Century, leading to shows with American Nightmare, Deluge and Third Season and more in all corners of the UK. Winter in June's 1st demo was released as the tracks on the split with Urotsukidoji on Engineer records and this acclaimed release gained WIJ radio play on the continent and a tour with Sweden's Nine (Burning Heart recs) in 2002. Not often a UKHC band arouses such interest off their first demo recordings. In this same year Winter in June supported Bane on the UK leg of their European tour, and witnessed a whole new level of enthusiasm for fast, traditional style hardcore sweep across the country.

The Bane tour saw the last shows of 2002 for WIJ, who took a break to concentrate on writing material for the debut solo release. A split with Steel Rules Die (ex-Anthem of the Century) is due to be released shortly after the Count me Out shows in early 2003 on Engineer Records followed by a joint UK tour together, and looks set to place both bands amongst the hardest working and most exciting punk rock bands in the country.
