Risto Mattila takes the win at the 2007 Nissan X-Trail Jam Big Air in the Tokyo Dome. In a two run, best run counts final, all riders were looking to improve their position in the second run. Risto out of the gate first, all but stomped his frontside 10 tail with a slight hand drag.
In any other competition it would have been enough to win, but considering the level of riding already seen from Matt and Travis, it didn't look like it was going to be enough.
Mathieu Crepel wound up and brought out the switch backside 12 as he was always going to, all but landing it and relegating him into third.
The only rider left was Travis, who was trailing Risto. Crowd favorite and definitely crowd pleaser, the fans franticly willed him on as he pulled the double backside rodeo attempt out of the bag. Coming up short to a roar of disappointment, leaving him in second, the crowd gave a standing ovation to all the riders for a masterful display of progression riding.
As the tribunes empty, the riders are heading back to the hotel for a well earned shower before heading out to enjoy the after-party and the delicacies of Tokyo, undoubtably one of the best cities in the world.
Superfinal results:
1. Risto Mattila (FIN)
2. Travis Rice (USA)
3. Mathieu Crepel (FRA)
