Its been nice being back here in Utah with friends and family, but super busy ever since I rolled in from Cali Wed night. Starting with my girls Staci and Christina flying in Thursday and X96 radio show Friday morning followed by Utah's NBC affiliate KSL in the afternoon then off to a few late gates of practice and 2 full days of racing Saturday and Sunday. Needless to say its 12p on Monday afternoon and I just woke up... looks like my break can finally start.
The folks at RAD Canyon did an awesome job with the freshly paved corners, they are hands down some of the best I have ridden and that increased the speed on an already fast track so people were loving it! RAD CANYON may have been the track I grew up on but I havent lived in Utah for 2 yrs now so now I understand why everyone always complains about the dry heat and altitude! Being in the 100* sun all day def killed me off.
I wasn't sure what to expect of myself coming into this weekend after training specifically for the Olympics these last 8 months. The styles of tracks are very different and I definitely struggled with the ABA gate cadence. I am also used to racing every 20min and being done with the whole show in 2hrs in one day, so two full days of racing had me TIRED! It was really fun to be back in the ABA scene though and be with people I havent seen in over a year. My last appearance at an ABA race was this race last year where I came fresh off knee surgery to crash in the second corner and re-injure my knee so this weekend turned out a bit better.
After bagging two wins this weekend and my '08 Olympic chase coming to a close it looks more and more inviting to make an end of season run at the ABA title.
It was a good weekend for team Formula but we came just short of the overall win both days. Lil beasty helped me sweep the podium with two 2nds both days, we had fun throwin some bows in racing and during the FLY catalog shoot. DEAKSTER made his cash and turned AA after Saturdays race. Trevor Morely brought home a BIG win Sunday and Lee the Flea came just shy of winning the stacked 19-27x class both days.
Danny C and the recently engaged Barry Nobles split wins in AA. Looks like Barry is a force to be reckoned with in both ABA and NBL now. Paul Lang brought Big Paul with him (his dad) it was the first time I have seen Big Paul in probably 9 years. It was also good to see both Steve and Sydni Spencers new baby girl as well as Bruce and Denita Ritters growing baby boy. Travis Healey came out of retirement for the weekend and made both 19-27x mains, looks like the kid can still shred...especially on his brand spankin new Formula.
I also got a chance to see BOTH Harmon brothers this weekend. Jonas and BJ are like brothers of my own, I grew up with them hassling me, teaching me how NOT to ride like a girl, and going on road trips together, so they always have a special place in my heart and I look forward to their rare appearances at the track.
I think thats update enough for now. Thanks to Terry and Ray at FLY for sponsoring some shade for me in the sweltering heat. I believe go211 will have vids from the race up by mid week. Apparently there was no internet at the track so they couldnt do live streaming.
Its time for another nap I think :)
