Tug-tug-o-war (Tue, 21 Apr 2009 Posted at 09:30:00 PM)
The thing I like most about being at the Olympic Training center is the friends i've made across such a broad variety of sports. Before last year I never had any real interest in track and field, didn't know there was such a thing as flat water kayaking, and never would have known the difference between sweep and skulling. Crazy thing is, being in such a close environment its easy to gain respect for what these other athletes do, even enjoy learning about it and trying it out.
One thing is for certain, when you get 200 Elite level athletes in one space competition is unavoidable. From basketball game bets to weight room challenges or cafeteria food games there is always something going on. A fellow go211 boardercross pro whom I like to call "ALASKA Callan" ALASKA in big caps because.. well, she's Alaskan, and also because I cant pronounce her last name. Anyway she is also here rehabing her ACL so we see each other quite a bit in physical therapy. I have always said if I didnt race BMX I would race boardercross because it may just be the only sport that can rival in my books, so once I knew thats what Callan did, I decided to like her. I also like to talk smack to her in rehab and we have an ongoing balancing contest on the indo boards which we somehow convince our trainers is rehab. Last week I dominated with the jump ball contest, she complained it was because of my Monkey arms so we had a re-match today. I have to admit its a pretty fair fight, she may have won the ball toss because she cheats but I did claim victory in the tug-o-war as evident by the intense expression on my face. Sorry Callan, maybe next time :)
Track is riding good right now, my legs are coming back fast, the weather is warm, and I am excited for Copenhagen. Got the new GT kit too... lookin fresh.
