Great week going down in the books, we've been doing some experimental training to fast track my recovery and so far I feel its paying off. I'm pumped to head off to Copenhagen, there is nothing like being back to racing on a ramp-- I just wish there were more SX races offered throughout the year.
I have had so much awesome support from the staff here as well as sponsors. Today a fresh pair of orthotics landed in my mailbox courtesy of Sheil and the group at eSoles. Until this injury, I never had a problem with my feet, but in an effort to maximize our performance a few of us were selected last year to do a fitting and try out riding with some custom footbeds. I definitely felt a difference in my ability to hammer down on the pedals using a custom fit footbed. Since my crash landing I have needed a little more cushion to alleviate some of the pressure on my heels while walking and doing my gym workouts so I was super psyched that eSoles helped me out with a new pair complete with extra cushion. Last weekend was full of events being held here at the OTC, the biggest of which being the Kayak national trials (which decided the world cup team). I have made some good paddling buddies here so it was exciting to see them in action especially at a race where so much was on the line. Its interesting to see how they race, quite a bit different than BMX. Unlike our sport its impossible for them to hold an all out effort for their events (500 or 1000m) so its all about pacing yourself off the line and exploding the last 100m. Definitely requires more patience than I could handle. Anyway big congrats to my homies Morgan House and Maggie Hogan for killing the competition in their respected categories. I also had a chance to run over to the track to watch the girls Pole Vault, undoubtably my favorite field event. Talk about having to be an amazingly coordinated athlete. Nothing like running full speed, planting a gigantic fiberglass pole into the ground and going upside down while rotating exactly right to clear a 15ft bar. Baddass. Pic below is Melinda Owen showing her competitors how its done.
