Despite the rain over the last few days they have done a good job keeping the track in shape and aside from gusty winds and a few sprinkles the weather held today. The track is one of the best Ritz has done, its technical, fairly fast, and it flows. The girls second straight is a bit tricky with the wind, you really have to be on point and set up perfect in the corner to get through the whole thing. I counted only four girls including myself that were able to make it through the whole section and even those of us that could, had difficulty doing it spot on every time. Lil beasty pogo sticked to looped out flat on her back on the first jump out of the corner (she's ok though, like rubber that one) and the majority of girls were hanging up on the landing of it. I have to admit it was super fun to ride and I am glad the bar is being pushed for us, but because the corner is set up for the guys and we have to "question mark" (over turn) to hit our line fast enough, it was unrealistic to think we wont get blasted trying to take the corner that way to get speed. Either way the track builders must have decided that having four girls get through it wouldn't be exciting enough for tv and as I left they were changing it up to make it a bit easier.
I had a near death experience first time over the first jump, dunno what happened really, I felt like I was chill but must have defaulted to Chula Vista mode off the lip and over shot the landing by about 10ft nosed in and ready to scorpion. Fortunately I rode out of it but close call for sure! My head is still a bit foggy from the time change so I decided it was in my best interest to hold back a little and not charge to win practice, just get a feel for the jumps. Sarah Walker took the practice crown this time by boosting the whole triple into the corner after Lauren Reynolds scared us all with a front wheel case to face plant over it. Hard to say if it will be an advantage come race time, but might as well give it a go tomorrow just to have it in the back pocket.
Boys all looked solid out there, Foxy was throwin down his style as usual and JB.com, Herman, Long and Vance "im-just-psyched-to-be-here" Weisendanger all looked fast. No photos to post yet but maybe in a little while I will snipe one off JLandrums collection at BMXmania.com.
9am practice tomorrow, TT start at noon for the girls. I hear Freecaster is broadcasting live so check it out.
