I spent the last few days in Berlin, Germany for the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds contest. I had not been to a contest in Europe in about two years. This was too long. The comps in Europe are always much more of a party scene than those in the U.S.A. The trip was a good way to end the year of contests and it was good to hang out with the Euro riders who I don't see very often.
The contest was run in a head to head format so you ride against one other person and you either advance to the next round or you don't. I lucked out in the first round because I rode against Ronnie Remo from the U.K. I did't luck out because he is not a good rider, I lucked out because he had a sprained ankle and he barely rode, making it easy for me to advance. Get well Ronnie! In the second round I faced Zach Warden who is a tough opponent. He is 17 years younger than me so it was a tough battle. He came out ahead and advanced to the finals. This left me as a spectator for the final four: Coco Zurita, Chad Kagy, Simon Tabron, and Zach. Chad took the top spot after Simon went down on a 900. Coco got third and Zach fourth.
I had a great time in Berlin and I am glad the year of contests is finally over. It's good to have some time off and not have to travel. Hopefully British Airways will deliver my lost luggage sometime soon so I can start riding again here at home.
