Luckily, most of my travel is done to warm places where surfing is the primary activity. However, every now and then, my travel plans call for me to leave the surfboards at home. It's a free and easy feeling showing up to the airport without a massive boardbag. Then again, most trips i'm flying solo, meeting up with friends once I arrive at the destination. I love getting lost in the crowd at an airport and getting on a plane, popping in headphones, and opening a book for some quiet alone time. This most recent trip, I traded a boardbag and solitude for family craziness. I was headed to Wisconsin with my Dad and three sisters for a family reunion in a cabin along a frozen lake decorated with snow.

My Dad and sisters, Hannah, Hayla, and Helina
The very first morning, just as my sisters and I were layering up in preparation for dealing with the freezing weather, my Uncle showed up and announced that we would be having trout for dinner, but first we had to head down to the trout farm to fish. I was pretty excited about the idea of fishing for dinner. It almost didn't seem fair to be pulling these beautiful fish out of a well-stocked pond. The minute the corn kernel bait hit the water, there was a bite. It didn't feel very sporting, but it was fun!

The perfect cast...

got a bite!

I got one!!!

mmmm.....trout!

My sister Hannah scored herself a trout.

My sister Helina wasn't really sure what to do with hers.
