-- 11/26/07: ABA Grands/End of the 2007 Season
ABA Grands were this weekend and they did a great job of putting on the race as usual. The ABA Grands is always the most hyped race of the year next to UCI Worlds and the ABA does a great job of making a show out of the whole deal.
The first day of racing was the Pro Spectacular and N.A.G. 5 Challenge. It has to be one of the best races to watch with the all the lights and smoke on the starting hill when everyone does their roll out. I felt like I rode well winning most of my laps up until the semi where I came unclipped. I passed two guys through the pro section and then another in the second turn to take over the 4th slot. I held them off down the last two straight and made it into the big show. I ended up with lane two in between Stevenson and Upshaw slingin and got cut off. I was in last but worked my way up to 4th so all in all I was happy with the results.
The Grands itself was a bit rough for me though. I was riding well in motos until I got tangled up with Calaug down the first straight and did a big belly where there was no water. I blasted my head pretty good but was ok, just had the wind knocked out of me for a bit and my shoulder was sore. Nothing hurt too bad though so I was ready for third round tomorrow morning. I needed to win the third moto to qualify and came out of the first turn in third. I passed them both through the pro section but it was pretty hairy. They were close to each other so I had to jump diagonally through them which kind of caused Oie to go off the track, sorry about that buddy! I drew a STACKED quarter but still felt confident. I came out of the first turn in third but going a little slower then I wanted because I got stuck down low. I fell back to fourth and then dR Donnald Robinson passed me in the second turn. End of the weekend for me right there. I wasn't too bummed though, I did everything I could and learned a few more things this weekend so it was alright. Racing Elite is going to be rough the first year but out of my first six races I have made four mains so I'm happy with it.
Anyways, I start training with German Medina from Colombia next week so I am really excited about that. This week will be all testing to see where I'm at and then everything goes from there. I will let you know how everything goes! Later - JB
