Yeah, another great weekend in the city of Salt for me goes down in the books. Started off with my awesome boss giving me the go ahead to get off a few hours early to drive up and surprise my wife and be able to hangout for a bit, that’s a sign of a good boss right there. Saturday, I decided to take Devster shopping, first let me start off by saying shopping with her can sometimes be hard, not for the normal reasons of over spending, but because of the never spending and lots of window shopping, I definitely am improving in my patience though. So after three and a half hours of walking around and a whopping total of 15 bucks spent (parking included) we were off to the races.
Walked into the track put the pedals on the bikes and started riding, the track was great! A nice little addition of a table going into the second corner was real cool, if you jumped this thing at race speed you hooked the corner and railed it perfectly, shooting you right into the rhythm straight, and then to the last corner and then pro jump. Later that night I heard my name being yelled, from what sounded like a wounded animal, I looked up and found that it was my former team mate and good friend Josh Hult from Idaho, who I haven’t seen in years, that big lug ran up and gave me a huge hug, kid got big that’s for sure. Anyway, racing began, it was fun to race stout and some guy on an MTB, Stouts quick and he was for sure there with me, I was yelling at him in the last corner to get on it. The competition and the people in Utah are so great right now, absolutely positive, and that makes the five hour drive to race so worth it!
After the first moto, my ma came to me and said my brother had just rolled the truck and was on the way to the hospital. Bummer, I guess the EMT thought it was worse than it was, actually, he walked away without a scratch, just a little sore, see kids, SEATBELTS SAVE LIVES! It just sucks, cause that was my truck. I finished out the night of racing and met them at the hospital, it was crazy there, but everything was ok, and we left shortly after I arrived. Sunday morning came pretty dang early, and this mornings are always bittersweet, see on one hand I get to race, but on the other I know that after racing I have to drive back to powell, and away from my wife, so these days are pretty hard. Racing was good, my class was a bit funny, ages anywhere from 13 up, and then PRO-AM was good, I qualified first round and then got a respectable fourth, Jordan passed me in the last corner, and I should have laid down on him, but hes bigger than me, (he’s 16), good racing all around, walked away from the race weekend with a pair of wins, not too bad for a has been.
The jumpers came out in force on Sunday, a bunch of Idaho spuds, and three of us from Utah. Steve spencer gave me the go ahead to jump with these guys, which was cool, I had to step it up a bit, I landed a little super man seat grab, haven’t done one of those in years, but it was so much fun, check out the pics at www.truebmx.com, B Long is killing it every weekend by taking great photos. So Im back at work in beautiful Lake Powell, its mid fifties right now, I think we might have to go riding tonight. I look forward to the next race weekend, the Bob Lunak Memorial race and fundraiser, hope to see everyone out there. Oh and starbucks, you guys take it for granted, I get it once a month, Im excited. Keep on Keepin On!
