Final Indoor 2-24-08

Posted at 10:35:44 AM

I got late start out of Bullfrog, not leaving until four thirty in the afternoon always throws a wrench into the trip, especially if there is weather involved. I got to price at seven, and that is when the snow hit, within minutes, inches of snow started to accumulate, and with the chevron com link going down, I had to leave my license there, and go to the grocery store to get money out of the ATM, and when it was all said and done, I left price at eight, and the snow was really coming down, as I left, cars were just pulling off the side of the road and stopping, not too smart in my opinion, but to each their own, well two and a half hours later, I was out of the price canyon and an hour after that, asleep in my other bed in bountiful, what a trip. Saturday started out good, breakfast with the guys in Kaysville, I look forward to this when I come up, just a chance to hangout with Larry, and Mitt, just another family that I am coming into and I love it, SOS is real good for breakfast. After breakfast I headed to my moms house to pester the family. My cousin lives with them while he is attending west minister, and he work at St. Marks on the weekend graveyard as a CNA, so I did what every other caring cousin does when someone is trying to sleep, I grabbed one of my hockey sticks and ran in the room and started beat on him a bit, good laughs with that one, all had by me. I went to noodles and Co. with the mom, chatted a bit, and then I was off the to races. Saturdays races were the state championship qualifier, so this means, the fellas that hardly race cruiser brought them out and it was a good race. I had Christian, Robbie P, and a quick fella from Wyoming, a new guy, and me. I was excited to race some quick guys, and the didn’t disappoint. Qualifying was good, I used to try and get out first, but I like the laps, and took the second round. In the main I had a good first straight and led the track until the last turn, I knew Robbie and Christian were comin at me through the rhythm section and just as I thought they caught me in the last corner Robbie made a low high move, and I braked and dove down to pull down the last straight only to run into Christian, that’s kids a brickhouse. It was clean, and super fun. Sunday, the Bob Lunac memorial race, a huge pro am, with a $2500 total payout to the top eight riders, and tons of raffle prizes, what a great turnout. I decided to enter the pro am, figuring it was another chance to race some more fast guys, little did I know that their was going to be quarters, semis, and 2 mains! I guess they missed the memo that Im a bit out of shape and old, I mean I retired once, geesh. This race started off with a silent lap, what a cool sight, the entire building was quiet and the “old schoolers” from Bobs time rode around the track. Steve Spencer and the rad canyon crew put something together that all and all was special and done for the right reasons. Thanks guys for that, I was happy to be a part of it. First moto My game plan was to try and get out with as many laps as I was going to hopefully be doing today, and I wanted to do well in my regular class as well. So the gate drops and I find myself in the lead, over jumping the double and table in the second straight, and bobblin all over the rtythm I seemed to make it out first round with a first. Followed up by a win in my regular class, sweet sitting til after second round 10x. Quarters I pulled a decent quarter, healy and fazzio, I thought I had a chance and in the first corner I found myself sitting in third telling travis and Jerimiah to pedal. Squeaked through to the semis Semis Now the motos were getting a bit harder, I pulled parry, Reed, Baisly, and the Maverick. Both motos were stacked and I was just happy to be there, gate went down and out of the first corner I found myself in third, I bit happy but trying to stay up there, second corner, parry put a sweet move on me and passed me like I was watching the race, baisley was pullin down the rhythm and I was on the bubble, down to the line, I made it, holy #%&@, Im in the main at one of the biggest turnouts for a pro am that I have been to so far. I tried to do the jumping exhibition, but after a crash Brandon smith and Jackie were yelling for me to save it, so I thought they were right and chilled. First main I drew gate eight, now normally, a person might not be so happy to have such a gate, but I knew what was going to happen. The game plan, stay to the outside and pull, avoid the inevitable tight race on the inside and rally around the first corner high. Like clockwork, it happened, I felt like I was up there and the crash happened right besides me, I missed it and rallied out of the first corner in Second behind sipkoi, dudes quick. Made it around the track and took respectable two points into the second main. Main for regular class was good, I took a first, and had some good kids in there. Second main Lame, I have gate four, am I going to be in the ballup, oh well, and that’s how I went into it. I got a good gate and got caught up a bit on the roller, and went into the corner seventh, and came out in fourh, I dove to the inside and did a little low high and pushed my way to the outside and closed the door on the way. During this time I was in a bit of different place, I was thinking of so many other things, like how the weather was going to be on my drive home, and how warm its gonna be in bullfrog, oh and then I realized I was in the rhythm and about fell over, moved my way to the inside, which I never do because the last turn usually sends you to the top, but not this time. Good thing I did cause TP was closing in on me fast, last straight I pedaled my cruiser to a nice fourth, sweet six points, I wonder how I did. The jury was in, and they started announcing. 8thmaverick, 7th Healey, 6th parry, 5th martinez, 4th Smith, 3rd reed, (at this point I was kinda like, “is this right?”, 2nd harmon, and 1st sipkoi. Holy shnack, I just took second in a main that I was just happy to be a part of. WOW! All and all what a great weekend, I enjoyed my money for about two minutes and then my wife took it, ah well, I didn’t think I would have it anyway. Thanks to the rad canyon crew, you guys really know how to have a good time. Thanks for the indoor season, and hope to see you all soon.. I love indoor and am so glad to be back on a track. Keepon keeping on!
