After years of being a pro snowboarder I’ve taken a break from the competitive scene. When I say a break, I mean I’m done. This is who I am now…
I’m a gardener. I love rural Oregon and all the amazing fruit that’s grown here. I grow anything I can’t get in the store; purple beans, heirloom tomatoes, red carrots, yellow cukes, five varieties of zukes, yellow raspberries, yellow watermelon, six varieties of blueberries among other things.
I love to cook. My mom taught me that food is love so I spread the love to anyone that comes to my house. I love to cook for friends but I don’t like to do dishes much. “I cook, you clean, brother” is a house rule.
I’m a novice surfer. I’m enchanted by the way hemlocks and cedars grow right up to the beach in Oregon. I love cold water and uncrowded waves. My perfect session is complete with collecting mussels off the rocks and cooking them with pasta, garlic, butter and white wine in the van shivering in my hoody.
Sometimes I’m a dirtbag. I am more comfortable sleeping in the vegi van in the parking lot than staying at a 5 star hotel.
I’ve been called an environmental freeloader. My honey and I have two vehicles that run on waste vegetable oil. We collect it from restaurants around town. I’ve been known to dumpster dive for cool things people throw away. I recently found an awesome table someone tossed out. I like to repurpose things that other people think are trash. I love to collect old jars and I’ve recently discovered canning and jamming so now I have a big collection of jars that I fill with jam and other treats from the garden for the winter.
Finally, I’m a born again snowboarder. After all those years competing I lost some part of my relationship with snowboarding. The last two years in Oregon we have had amazing snow and I’ve rediscovered fast pow runs in the trees, giddiness and laughing on the chairlift, beers with friends after riding, and a new obsession of checking the snow report every morning hoping for stormy Oregon weather that will bring more snow instead of good conditions for competing.
I love people so drop me a line….
