Last week I journeyed from bali over to Brunei with Rizal Tanjung, Marlon Gerber and photog Nate Lawrence for a 5 day mission to score some waves in a very unknown place. Brunei Is a small country in Malaysia on the island of Borneo. The place is ruled by a sultan who happens to be the third richest man in the world from oil profits. He controls the country and takes care of his citizens. Free health care, education and housing. If brunei had good waves it would be the epic place to live. only problem is there is no beer and the waves don't get over head high. it is a strict muslim country so if you are craving an ice cold beer after a long day of surfing small junky brunei style waves your screwed. but you could do a jungle run as the locals call it and drive 30 minutes to the border of malaysia and cross then bring in 6 cans of beer legally if your not muslim. We had a good search for waves but weren't to impressed. wedgey little beach break was all we could find but the food was well worth the 2 hour flight from bali. |
