My streak of making a couple heats in the early rounds of the Reef Haleiwa pro ended yesterday with a stacked heat against WQS top 20 surfer Michel Bourez, WCT rated surfer Kai Otten and WCT surfer Dan Ross. I was winning the heat for 22 min. and in the final minute went from 1st to third and failed to advance. My mistake: Going for a floater instead of a lip bashing on the toilet bowl section not once but twice. I air dropped down and could not keep my balance only to fall on waves that would have most likely secured me a spot into the next round. I guess I learned my lesson twice. Don't float the toilet bowl section at Haleiwa on your back hand. Just hit the section and finish the wave. Thats all it would have taken. A move I could almost do with my eyes closed. Gosh I'm an idiot but thats how you learn right? from your mistakes.....
