Mick Danby stella musician profile issue one.
In the newly created Idol world of music, its becoming seemingly rare to find truly fresh and wholesome artists, battling their way into the music scene. Enter, Mick Danby. Raised in Brisbane, Mick has been residing on the Gold Coast for the past five years doing what he does best, riding waves and writing music. Having over a decade of experience in the music industry, the 22-year-old veteran is about to face the ultimate test, with a one-way ticket to the make or break muso hub of the world, London. But when youve got scouts from the UKs EMI/Virgin records hot on your tail, leaving the golden beaches of oz to pursue your lifelong dream in dreary (i.e. surfless! gasp!) London the future has never looked so bright.
After spending the last 10 years performing in bands ranging from rock to punk to popular covers, the self-taught acoustic singer/songwriter is finally branching out into a solo career. Coming from a musical family, his mother is an operatic/church songstress, and influenced by the sounds of Ben Harper and Coldplay, Mick describes his music as acoustic/rock/soft groove. While he could be easily typecast as yet another surfer/musician, Micks heartfelt harmonies are a far cry from the plethora of whooing Jack Johnson wanna-bes, popping up every other week.
Lyrically, Mick thrives on the moment. I wont just sit down and go, ok, today Im going to write a song. Its more about different situations that Im in, different people I meet and the influences around me that make me feel a certain way; and then thats where the creativity and heart comes in. Mick also places a lot of importance on writing all his on own work. (Performing) your own song brings a lot of feeling and I think people notice that when youre on stage. If youre singing someone elses song, theres not going to be as much impact or feeling. And you only have to listen to one or two of Micks tracks to appreciate how much of himself he puts into his music. Micks passion alone will undoubtedly set him on the road for success. Back that up with a truckload of talent and wrap it all up in the refreshingly wholesome and super spunky package that he is, it wont be long before we hear the tunes of Mick Danby floating through the airwaves.
