Im sitting in Singapore after just finishing 5th place at the Sri LAnka Pro in the Maldives. The contest was at pasta point and the waves were pumping all week long. The place is insane!!!!!! its the perfect surf retreat. At the top of the island is pasta point which is a perfect left that reels right past the restaurant and bar. Its pretty hard to sit and eat when the waves are reeling past you. But as the sun starts to set and you have been surfing all day, there's not a better place to be than right there. A cold beer and your good friends, it doesnt get much better.
In my round of 24 heat I almost got a perfect 10 ( three judges gave me a 10 and one judge gave me a 9.8) I must have snaked him the day before. A fter that result I now sit in 9th place on the WQS ratings.
The last day there was the closing ceramony. Earlier that day Sunny Garcia got married on the south end of the island to a good friend of mine's sister. ITs was really cool and laid back. The local hero/ surf guide Dara did the ceramony. Since they got married on the other side of the globe not many of his close friend s were there. So instead of a best man he had his best board by his side. Actually he had his 5 best board by his side. I thought that was classic. Its was really cool to be there for that. From there we all went to the closing ceramony. They had a big BBQ and a sick local band. The lead singer was dubbed the Maldivan Jimi Hendrix. The guy was amazing on the guitar. The whole night he had a ciggarett lit and hanging out the side of his mouth. I ended up getting up on stage and playing a song with the band. I got to play the mariachi and back up vocals. I even busted out the dancing surfer while playing the Mariachi. It was an epic end to the trip. Im now off to BAli to film with the Rusty team for their upcoming video. The waves are supposed to be pumping for the next week straight. From there I go to Durban, South Africa for another WQS contest. Im traveling with Austin Ware, MIke LOSness and The Guadaskas trio. All of our crew is doing really well on the WQS. Its insane to have our crew of US surfers smashing ts up on th WQS. We havent had a solid amount of American surfers doing this well on the WQS in a long time. Im claiming that there is going to be a lot of new American faces next year ON the WCT.
