As many of you regulars already know, the US Open was just last week. I know a lot of you watched live here on go211.com. Thanks for watching! I guess you already know how the contest went for me and everyone, but i thought i'd tell you a little about what they didn't show. Like the crazy weather in Stratton for the entire week! I got there on Monday the 16th and the weather was AMAZING! I'm talking pure spring shredding happening. It was like 50 some degrees and blue skies and no clouds. It was really nice being able to shred such nice conditions. Then on Wednesday, the RAIN came in... It started at 12:00 and rained pretty much all day and night. Then Thursday the rain turned to freezing rain and then finally snow. So those two days were just typical VT US Open weather. After I thought this was going to be another horrible, lame, Open, the weather totally redeemed itself! The finals day for pipe was just amazing again! Started out pretty cold in the morning then heated to a whopping 50 degrees. This was great again, but the pipe didn't really get the attention it needed for the heat. The left wall really began to fall apart mid way through the guys semi's, which started at 11 am. Then the flat bottom really got slushy and made it extremely difficult to keep speed, your edge, etc... It was just very hard all around to ride once the finals actually started. At the end of the day I ended up in 5th! Which I am pretty pumped on, because I didn't really land any of my 3 runs the way i wanted.
I do have a few things to say about some people I think deserve a little shout out... Gretchen Bleiler really got F*#!ed in the Ass in the pipe contest! She rode extremely well and ended 5th? Think that was just a bit off, and she deserves to be recognized for it! Also WAY TO GO Kjersti Buass for an amazing weekend taking QP, slope, and 4th in pipe! She's riding really really well! And Ellery for landing her cab 900's lately! These ladies in particular have just been blowing my mind lately and wanted to let them know it. Matt Ladley is another who has just been riding so well and he really got screwed at the Open too! QP he really deserved 2nd in my opinion and better than 11th in the pipe.
Now I'm home for a few days, and heading to MEXICO on Sunday! So excited to get out of the cold winter for a week and sit on the beach with my girlfriend and friends from Minnesota (where i grew up). Two of my good friends from home are getting married and they decided on a destination wedding to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I'll leave you with that for now, but will write and take a bunch of photos for you all to be jealous of when i get back! laters.
