I have loved to ride bikes ever since I can remember. I started racing when I was 9 years old in 1986 at Apache Land BMX in Sanger, CA. I am in my 23rd year of racing and about to start my 14th season as a professional. Along the way I have been blessed with a great support system of family and friends, starting with my parents who have been amazing since day one, and also my wife, Carrie, and three kids, William, Julia and Noah, who motivate me every day to do my best. I am also thankful for my riding buddies out at Reedley Airtime BMX and FBX in Fresno who keep things fun and also my church family at Woodward Park Church of Christ in Fresno.
Some of the highlights in my career have been winning the UCI World Championships in Elite Cruiser 4 years in a row, winning the ABA National Title in Pro Cruiser 5 years in a row, and winning 2 NBL Elite Men’s titles of which the latest was this past year in 2008. I spend my days training and trying to be better at my sport and hanging out with my family in between. I usually get up and help get the kids fed and started on their day. I load William and Julia in the wagon and pull them down the street while riding my bike for a warm-up. Then I usually head to the gym for an hour or two. I’ll come home after that and have a little lunch and then William and I usually head outside to either ride or do some sprints. He’s my best training partner. Then we settle in for some afternoon rest time and I try to get some chores done before dinner. That’s how most days go and I love it because I get to be around my family so much.
In 2009 you can find me at most ABA and NBL national events along with the UCI World Championships in Australia. If you are local to the Fresno area make sure to check out the NBL nationals held at FBX in Woodward Park May 16-17 2009.
