So we had some neighbors move in next door a few weeks ago although we hadn't made it over to meet them yet. Well a couple nights ago I was almost asleep when I heard my dog carrying on like crazy outside the bedroom window. This is not uncommon for Toby so I kind of just looked outside and told him to be quiet, which by the way never works, and I noticed he was chasing something through the trees and bushes. Probably a rabbit or gopher I figured like usual. So I went back to sleep as he quieted down a few minutes later. The next mornning I look out the window and there is a dead cat on our lawn. That's his third cat he's killed this year....I guess he's a little protective of the property. Anyway my heart sank because I figured this is the new neighbor's cat and now I basically have to go over there and say..."Nice to meet you, I'm Randy your really nice neighbor, but sorry my dog is a cat killer and would you like me to bury the cat or would you?"
So anyway I was doing sprints this morning and I see the family leaving, which by the way they have three young girls......so probably my dog will be responsible for three very sad girls. I asked if they were missing a cat and was told no, their cat was in the backyard, they just saw it. I thought, great...I'm off the hook. Anyway, a few hours later the father came to my door with a picture of two cats, and asked if the smaller one was the one I was talking about and I told him yes....I actually hadn't burried it yet so he took a look and confirmed. He was really nice about it....and he just thought it was best if the girls didn't see it so I burried it later this evening. So now I've met my new neighbors who seem really nice......but somehow I'm thinking I haven't made a very good first impression. Oh...and my dog's name is Toby and I learned the cats name was Toby as well.
So please, don't let your cat near my yard. The survival rate is very low. RS
