Last evening Jim led our class in the beginning of a study on Luke that will take us through February of next year. I am for sure looking forward to that. Jim posed the question last night of which is your favorite gospel account. I had never given that much thought as there are some things from each that make them unique, however I tend to lean towards Luke but am not sure why. Two of my favorite passages are in Luke 18 and 19. The first being about the pharissee and tax collector both praying to God as the pharissee thinks he is better and more spiritual than the tax collector, but at the end of the passage the tax collector was the one justified before God. It reminds me to make sure my cup is clean on the inside, not just the outside. Also in Luke 19 I love the story of Zachaeus, and it might be because it was one of William's first favorite stories. Here is another tax collector who is probably looked down upon by most people around him and yet he searches diligently for Jesus, and of course Jesus knows this and knows Zachaeus' heart so he calls him down immediately and goes to have a meal with him. Zachaeus immediately responds to Jesus that he will give to the poor and repay everyone he has cheated 4 times the amount. Zachaeus is a man who wants to do better, and so am I, so maybe that is why I relate to this story. Anyway, looking forward to the study.
