This was the 13th World Championships I have raced in since being Elite and I definitely rank Adelaide as one of the best. The atmosphere was classic Worlds atmosphere that you would expect as Saturday there was standing room only in the arena and it was LOUD!! The track actually rode great and I thought it offered a little bit of everything from power to spinning to making sure you caught backside to making sure you didn't get spit out of the rhythm section. Super fun track.
For me, my day ended in the semis. Elite had 112 riders and by the time we got to the semis it was definitely stacked. Got a good start and was outside in lane 7 and felt like I was top 4 in the corner and I guess KY came in hot and blew everyone up. Everyone went down except 3 dudes, so that leaves one more spot to make the main. I gather myself and end up racing KY for the last spot as we roll the pro section and race to the line where he held on. That is how the worlds is, crazy stuff happens.
Big congrats to dR for taking his first Elite Men's World Championship Title. Well deserved as he got the start he needed from lane 3 to edge out Maris who was in lane 1. Donny crossed the line in his classic fashion with no fist pump because he doesn't want anyone to know he is excited. And also congrats to Mikey Day for getting the silver from lane 8. Arielle Martin got a third in Elite Women's, she rode great. USA represented well in almost all classes. Adelaide was a great host and the UCI put on a good show.
Now the long flight back....
