Carrie and I always knew Julia would be the first to take us to the ER, and it proved true Sunday. However it was kind of a false alarm I guess you could say. During church services the kids of course were getting antsy towards the end. Carrie was holding Noah and I had William in my lap and Julia was trying to escape. Carrie grabbed her arm and Julia did her "go limp" rebellion thing and twisted at the same time. We noticed that while putting her in the car after services she looked in pain and was favoring her left arm by not moving it much. We thought maybe her shoulder or wrist was hurting. We went home to see if she snapped out of it, but she was in a lot of pain and every time she tried to move her hand she cried. So about three hours after it happened Carrie drove her to Children's hospital to get it checked out. Apparently right before Carrie and Julia got called in to be seen by the doctor, Julia was back to her normal self using her arm perfectly. Julia had what is called Nursemaid's elbow where it gets pulled out a bit and doesn't sit back correctly. It happens in young children and they say that it won't happen after they are five years old. Now, my question is, what is a nursemaid and wouldn't a nursemaid be over five years old?? Anyway sometimes the kids can pop it back in themselves or the doctor has to do it, but it is common and when Julia got home she was back to her normal self wrestling with William.
Below she is sleeping after a hard day of playing.....foot on the wall for comfort. And no, we haven't taught her yet that babies sleep on their backs.
