Okay I have to vent. I just wrote this whole blog about last week and how the weekend went and then my damn computer just turned off! I hate electronics!!!!
Alrighty then let's just move on like that never happened. Last week was awesome! I am finally feeling fairly decent. I haven't yakked for like a week and a half and I'm stoked. I usually have to carry around this plastic pink tub just in case, but I am happy to say I have retired the pink tub. WooHoo!
So last weeks therapy sessions and all my other classes went really well. I was able to stand up in that cool stand up machine for 45 minutes without feeling lightheaded or nauseous at all. I was psyched! Believe it or not it's hard to do that. Just because your body isn't used to standing so it needs time to adjust and understand what's going on. I can't explain how good it feels to stand up. It's a strange feeling though just because I can't feel. I mean I'm standing and I look down at my legs and they are straight, but I can't feel them holding me up. Hey, as long as I'm standing that's all that matters to me! :)
Another cool thing was that my PT therapist Audrey and I have been working on slide board transfers. A slide board is just a smooth board that they use as sort of a bridge from your chair to a mat. Last week was really the first week where I was doing them on a daily basis. Then on Thursday I saw someone do a transfer without the board and just use their upper body to move from one to the other. So I told Audrey that I knew I could do it. She kind of looked at me like, "are you sure?" I was like, "hell yeah!" So I took the board out, counted to three, and nailed it. Hah hah...suckas...I knew I could do it. Just bring it! I was pretty fired up and just want to be pushed and since I'm finally feeling better I CAN be pushed.
So on Friday we had an outing. A bunch of us took the bus to a train and got dropped off at 16th street. It was such a beautiful day and it was great to just get out of the hospital. Once we got there we could split off and go do whatever. Sixteenth Street is a cool outdoor type of street mall with a bunch of different shops. As soon as we got there and both Polly and I eyed the Nike Store we were gone! We probably spent most of our time in there and actually bought a few things. When it was time to pay I had cracked a couple jokes and I totally noticed that the kid ringing up the bill wouldn't even look at me. Like he thought I had a mental disability or something because I was in a chair. It was so lame. As I sat there it made me both sad and mad. I wanted to get up and sort of shake him and just say, "I got hurt riding my bike and I'm normal just like you I'm just a little shorter than before dammnit" It just kind of sucked because it looked like he just had his mind made up about me. You know what though it's his loss because those were funny jokes! hehe.
Anyway, so the rest of the day was super fun and it was great to be outside. We made it back and my back was hurting a bit so I laid down and I was out like a light. But I made sure to wake up about 45 minutes later and get back in my chair so I could make it to my chair class. I knew we were going to be playing Go Ball and it's so much fun to play I didn't want to miss it. When my Mom, Polly, and I got there there were alot of other family members there and they ALL wanted to play. We ended up having to substitute all of the AB's (able bodied) players because they only have 3 extra wheelchairs. It was super fun and Polly got to play too. After that I was pretty worked just because of how long I was in the chair that day so we all just relaxed the rest of the night. It was a really fun day though.
Saturday I actually had an Off Campus Pass from my doctor so Polly and I decided to go to our friend Nicci's house. Just to go watch a movie or something and to get out of the hospital is a good thing. We had fun and just watched a little TV and chilled out a bit.
Today I woke up and it was snowing! How nuts is that. It was like 75 degrees here yesterday and then today fully snowing. It was beautiful! We didn't have any plans today, but I knew the Jeep KOM race was going to be on so I went out by the nurses station and we all watched it. I want to say thank you to Hugh and the guys at Echo Entertainment and also to Ted Martin for not airing my crash. They took the time to call and ask me if it was okay to air it and I told them that I just wasn't ready to see it yet. They respected my wishes and didn't air it. However they did put a small part in at the end with some photos of me and mentioned what had happened along with my recovery website. Thank you all for doing that.
So now it's like 8:30 p.m and I need to get to bed at a decent hour. I just had a glance at my schedule for this week and it looks crazy busy! I have a feeling I'll be sleeping really good this week.
Cheers!

p.s. I want to apologize to everyone that has sent in Friend Requests that I haven't been able to get to. Also, to everyone that has sent messages. I think I have about 645 right now, but I'll do my best. Right now I need to concentrate on my therapy and getting my scrawny little legs walking again. But thank you all for sending your prayers and good vibes. Please keep sending them! | | |
