 | Jeep Finals Well, last week sucked now didn’t it! No, really it wasn’t such a good week however I did get to spend time with my family and that was a really good thing. I had plans to fly out to Sun Valley, Idaho for the Jeep KOM Winter Series Finals. It was going to be my first flight since the accident. I was nervous, but stoked to go. Everyone that works for 48 straight are such amazingly cool people. So I flew out Thursday night and got in late since the flight ran behind, but I had good company. Scott from Decline mag. and I hung out on the flight and got a chance to catch up. Friday morning the crew running the Jeep race picked me up to take me over to watch the snowboard cross finals. Chopper from Smith met me over there to watch some of the racing and do some catching up. Who knew I’d have to fly all the way to Idaho to hang out with some of my peeps! Palmer won the first two rounds of the series and was looking to kick more ass this past weekend. I hung out in the nice warm VIP tent in front of the TV watching all the heats. There were some good races and some gnarly crashes, but in the end Nate something or other just barely beat Palmer at the line in the finals. I say Nate "something or other" because he tried to pick a fight with me at the party later that night. He was so freakin’ drunk and yelling at me that, "This is my race! I own this s%!", and all I did was ask him if he could move over a bit to let this other guy by as to not spill his double fisted margaritas all over me. So after our brief encounter where I congratulated him on his accomplishment I rolled away and joined a much more fun group of people. In the women’s race a young girl named Callan from Alaska won. Lindsay Jacobellis should have won because she was killing it, but crashed really hard in her semi’s. I swear when she went down I thought for sure she snapped both her femurs and knocked herself out, but somehow someway she got up and actually boarded down. Bananas!! After all the racing they had a little dinner and then a huge party downtown with a few different bands playing. I hadn’t heard of them before, but with a couple vodka, 7-up, cranberries at 6,000 feet they all started to sound good! I woke up Saturday kinda hurting and couldn’t figure out why. Oh wait..I did figure it out. I lost my freakin’ meds!! Man, I’m an idiot sometimes!! Well, I just sucked it up and went back to the mountain to watch the skier cross finals and let me just say that the racing was sick! I really didn’t know any of the skiers, but they were amazing! The racing was tight and there were passes like crazy. In the Women’s finals Julia Murray won after like 3 different lead changes. It was one of the coolest races I’ve ever seen. They were flying. They used the same course as the boarder cross, but even faster. They were probably going like 50-60 mph passing each other all over the place. In the men’s race I was soo stoked. Alot of people don’t know this, but our very own Chris Del Bosco won the final!! Damn straight! Chris beat Tomas Kraus, Casey Puckett, and even Daron Rahlves! He was flying through every heat and looked crazy fast. It was pretty cool to see. We went back to the hotel for a bit Saturday afternoon to rest up for the party, but ended up staying in. I started feeling horrible and after sleeping for about 45 minutes from Saturday night at 11pm to Sunday morning around 9am I went to the ER. They ran a bunch of tests on my stomach since that’s what was hurting, but they couldn’t find anything. It’s a good thing they didn’t, but at the same time I want to know what the heck it wrong. The fights were changed and I ended up getting home about midnight. All in all I had a really fun time and Idaho was beautiful. I have to thank Denise, Katie, Carrie Ann, Mike, Henry, Ted, and of course Kip for wanting to throw such kick ass races with a kick ass party afterward. But really thanks for having me out and I hope to come back again. Today I was back at therapy once again and doing pretty damn good. I think I have two broken toes so I have to take it easy so we did alot on the mat today, which I think was a good thing. As it turned out I moved my right leg more than I ever have! Can I getta WooHoo!! It’s always a cool thing to see your therapists eyes get big when you’ve shocked them. I love it!
Cheers! tara Never Give Up! |
