April 1, 2008 - Tuesday | Rye Airfield / Fontana Leatt Brace / Wings for Life Kyle Ebbett held a fundraiser for my Road to Recovery a few weeks back and I’ve been shit about getting it on my site and mentioning it. Kyle really went above and beyond and is truly a great guy and good friend. Thank you Kyle and everyone else that participated in the event from the bottom of my heart. Here is his email to me on how the event went...
Hi Tara, 154 people showed up and just over 4,500 raised. It was sweet all the company’s called me up and donated tons of gear. I was planning on calling them but they beat me to it buy calling me first. Aaron Chase sold one of his Red Bull helmets for 355 and we couldn’t take credit cards so we logged onto your site and he donated directly to your web site.

It was a really good time for every one and it was really cool to see the love for you out there. Timo sent clothes from Germany, that was probably the furthest away donation.

In other news the Fontana National was this past weekend and while I don’t really have any results for you I am happy to say that there apparently were quite a few riders wearing the Leatt Brace . If only I had known a bit more about the brace before I got hurt, but shoulda, coulda, woulda. If it had to happen then the absolute very least I can do it demand that riders try the Leatt Brace because you know what....YOU ARE NOT INVISIBLE!! I don’t mean that any of you will absolutely get hurt at some point, but in the event that you do why risk it?? I don’t ever want to see another rider in the position I’m in. So at least think about it.
One last site that I have been on quite a bit lately is the Wings for Life website. I plan on going up to meet with them the week after Sea Otter to talk about some opportunities with them. The website gives you some insight on neck and back injuries and paralysis. They are doing alot to help find a way to help people in chairs get back on their feet....literally!!
I hope I’ve given you all enough to read, talk about, and hopefully enjoy! Cheers! tara
