 | Driving test After therapy today my mom and I drove out to Riverside to pick up my friend Brooke’s truck. He was letting me borrow it so that I could take my driver’s test today. I was able to drive a bit while at Craig to get used to the hand controls, but it’s been like 4 months since then so to say I was nervous was a bit of an understatement. Normally (when I could use my feet to drive) I wouldn’t even break a sweat. Clearly because I thought I was the best driver on the road (I was). hehe. But, using hand controls is a bit different. You have a lever on the left of the steering wheel and you push it forward to brake and push down for the gas. I picked his truck up around 1:30pm and my test was at 3:45pm. My mom was following me to the DMV and it was going to take about 45min. to get there so that was plenty of time to get the hang of it. I started out just fine. I was just getting to the freeway when I went to turn left, but realized at the last minute that I was in the wrong lane to turn left. There weren’t any cars next to me thank gawd because what was next to follow wasn’t pretty. As soon as I hit the intersection I panicked. I was thinking about being in the wrong lane and not to hit anyone when I pushed the gas instead of p forward for the brake and then I hit the brake, and then gas, and then brake and then gas. I swear it was like time stood still while I drove like a jackass!! In the middle of my little breakdown I was heading into oncoming traffic! Yeah, I’m not kidding! I ended up on the wrong side of the road and pulled into a gas station. My heart was freakin’ pounding! My mom pulled in behind me and was like, "What the hell just happened!" After my heart stopped pulling itself out of my chest and my hands stopped shaking a bit I got myself together and just kinda started laughing. It was more of a nervous haha, but at least I could laugh about it after I realized that no airbags were depolyed. After that little scare I made it to the DMV, practiced my parallel parking with my coach (mom), and then took the test. I ended up passing with flying colors and got my new license. So now all I need is a car, but I’ll be getting it soon so I’m not too worried. Tomorrow I’m going to be working on the Sea Otter Auction and trying to get things wrapped up. I want to say thanks to all the pro’s that have donated something to the auction. It is going to be amazing. Here is a list of riders that so far have donated something. Eric Carter, Steve Peat, Cedric Gracia, Brian Lopes, Tracy Moseley, Shaun Palmer, Kirt Vories, Marla Streb, Mercedes Gonzales-Natvig, Leigh Donovan, Adam Craig, April Lawyer, Claudio Calouri, Chris Kovarik, Nathan Rennie, Vanessa Quinn, Alison Dunlap, Katerina Nash, and possibly Ned Overend, and something from John Tomac. The items donated are unreal so check it out. The auction begins on April 25th at 5pm EST with the bidding ending on May 9th at 5pm EST. It will be an online auction and it will take place at www.go211.com. I will have an exact URL in another day or two so hang tight. Goodnight, tara
