Hospital Update and sad news in the moto world...

Update on hospital and other news...
I just spoke with Troy Lee yesterday and he told me the sad and devastating news of the death of Anthony Hart, Carey Hart's younger brother. Anthony was practicing for Doug Henry's New England Grand Prix Supermoto race when he lost control of the motorcycle and and hit the barrier. He was airlifted to Hartford Hospital, but pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Carey was not at the event, but their father Tom was and accompanied Anthony to the hospital. Carey was in Sturgis at the time of the accident, but flew out to be with the family immediately. My heart goes out to Carey and his entire family. I know this has to be a very very difficult thing. My prayers goes out to them.
I'm sorry if I haven't updated for a couple days, but the last thing I wanted to do was get on my computer while at the hospital or even when I got out. But I AM out of the hospital and feeling better. I ended up getting the Lumbar Puncture late Tuesday afternoon and it only took about 15-20 minutes for them to do it. Then I was in recovery for about another 30 minutes then went back up to my room where they told me they wanted to keep me another night just to monitor me, and that's where I drew the line and said, "nope, I'm outta here!" I didn't see any reason why they needed to keep me and why I needed to stay another night in that crappy bed. So they ended up releasing me and I was on my way, but they did tell me to just take the next couple of days easy which I've been doing.
I've had a lot to catch up on so I've just been on the computer for the past day or so working on a few things. One of them being a fundraiser I'm going to be putting on at Interbike. I can't give out the details just yet, but will very soon.
Other than that I'm going to be packing today to get ready and fly out to Colorado for my 6 month re-evaluation at Craig hospital. I'm excited to go back and see everyone, but at the same time bummed because my doctor will not be there. Of all the weeks I had my 6 month re-evaluation scheduled the same week he was going on vacation. So needless to say I'm really bummed because he's such a good doctor and I really wanted him to take a look at these scans that I just had done at St. Josephs. It's important to me that I get a second opinion on what my next step is.
After the lumbar puncture a new Dr., Dr. Anker came in to explain what he found in my MRI after my original CT Mylogram. Basically within you spinal column you've got your spinal cord. Well, your spinal cord should just be floating straight down in your column and not touching anything. Well, my spinal cord is touching my spinal column in two different places. It looks like it's pressed up against it and stuck. In one of the places it's stuck it's pressed against the spinal column on the left side and further down it's stuck to it on the right side. When talking to me about this he said that he feels (along with some other neurosurgeons he spoke with) that it would be best to go in and release my spinal cord so that it's floating straight down again and that he thinks that that's what could get rid of my pain in my right hip and leg. The problem I'm having is that 1) I'm ready to jump at anything at this point to get rid of the pain, which isn't good. He could tell me that I've got gummy bears floating around in there and that if he gets them out my hip will be fine and I'd do it!! 2) I'm getting more and more nervous that they say it's one thing and then it turns out to not be and then they say it's something else. I'm just not that stoked on all these different ideas.
So I talked to my spine specialist Dr. Chen yesterday and asked him what his professional opinion was because I wasn't just going to go under the knife and was having second thoughts as to Dr. Anker's conclusion. What Dr. Chen suggested was that if he were me he would get a second opinion from Dr. Barth Green who is the leading Dr. at the University of Miami. That is who Dr. Chen studied under in school and he is the best apparently. I asked if he thought I could just send the scans to him, but he truly thought it would be in my best interest to fly out to Miami and get a second opinion face to face. So I guess my next step is to get his number and see what can be done.
You know it's just crazy because you feel like you're just running around with your head cut-off and not sure who's right and who's wrong. BUT one thing I truly believe is that I am getting closer an closer to having the right Dr.'s by my side and that is a very very good thing.
I really want to thank ALL of you for your support in reading my blogs and commenting to let me know that you're all thinking of me. It really put a huge smile on my face when I got home and had a chance to read them.
Thank you!!
