
Crocodiles- Summer of Hate (Fat Possum Rec)
San Diego's Crocodiles debut LP brings us back to a much earlier time, when music on the latest John Hughes film was all the rage and lo-fi, shoegaze pop was the alternative to Richard Marx and whatever other garbage littered the FM dial.
Coming off the cult hit 'Neon Jesus' from their EP, the Crocodiles continue with their distorted, fuzzed out melody, reminding the 80's enthusiasts among us how great Echo And The Bunnymen, Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine were.
The nine songs on Summer of Hate ring with noisey, anthemic rock, on the darker side of the spectrum with a modern day feel to a time honored formula. Though it takes on plenty of 80's influence, it has droning and danceable contemporary feel, similar to way current bands like The Dum Dum Girls or Wavves exist. If the Velvet Underground were still around, they might sound something like this...
