Joie De Vivre- Summer Months (Count Your Lucky Stars Rec)
I've been noticing a recent resurgence of the type of indie rock emanating from the midwest in the late 90's, i.e. emotive, post hardcore, the sort of stuff that spawned dozens of great records from labels like Jade Tree, Revelation and Crank! toward the end of the millenium.
Joie De Vivre sound like they could have been right in the heart of that scene in the late 90's, with their jangly, vibrant indie-lite rock. Having been quite intrigued with this type of sound a decade ago, this immediately made me nostalgic for bands like Mineral or Texas Is The Reason. However, Joie De Vivre are far from being a poor copy of bands of yesteryear, but rather retain a modern day feel to an older genre, doing it with conviction, passion and sincerity.
For fans of past greats like The Promise Ring, Braid and Capn Jazz or anyone who just enjoys melodic and moody indie rock with a penchant for emotive and passionate song writing.
