Aneurysm Rats- Dying To Live (Assassinated Rec)
Another up and coming supergroup, this time hailing from Phildelphia and featuring ex-members of Paint It Black, None More Black, One Up and Crumbler, this debut dropped on April 7 this year. While punk and hardcore have increasingly become more, well, commercially acceptable in recent years, Aneurysm Rats keeps their sound rooted in being up front, brash, old school influenced and with plenty of punk spirit.
'Dying To Live' is a quick blast of fast, furious, unrelenting hardcore/punk with underlying melody and a good balance between shouting and singing. Lots of songs are under a minute; these guys make their point quick, don't waste time meandering around with guitar noodling and experimental nonsense. Like a slap to the face, each song is an onslaught of fist pumping, anthemic, manic and explosive hardcore, the type of sound that will appeal to clean cut guys with Champion sweatshirts and running shoes just as much as it would to kids with back patches on their leather jackets and heavily pierced eyebrows.
Very few bands are playing this sound anymore and the few that are certainly aren't doing so with these results. Limited to 400 on black vinyl, 100 on green vinyl, comes with a free download card, too. Available for purchase on Itunes as well.
