Bell Horses- This Loves Last Time (Trysquare Rec)
Bell Horses is the debut collaboration of two successful solo acts- Jenny Owen Youngs (The Robot Explosion) and Xian Hawkings (Sybarite), as well as an all star cast of other musicians from bands like The Antlers. A short endeavor, these 8 songs are filled with emotive and intricate experimental pop, a good balance between string arrangements, electronic touches, and acoustic gentleness.
Recording these songs without actually being in the same place ever, the pair sent back their respective tracks back and forth via email to make 'This Loves Last Time'. Post-electronica, ambient, and sometimes psychedelic, this is a very abstract and accomplished batch of songs, clearly emanating from the minds of intellectual and critical thinkers.
With strained vocals, Bell Horses blend guitars, pianos, strings, and percussion with synth and samples to produce tracks that rarely resemble each other. Owen's and Hawking's trade off on the vocals, though on a disc like this they are merely a footnote to all the trippy, atmospheric, beautiful noises. Thickly atmospheric and self-described as 'experimentally inclined', 'This Loves Last Time' drops on October 13.
